Requests.

Are you the type who openly agrees to fill requests for other artists? Or do you reserve requests for more 'special' occasions? If you're the latter, then what kind of circumstances are they, when you will take a request? Obligation (such as contest prizes)? Interest (i.e. premise of request)? Random inspiration?

And how do you respond when somebody else asks you about taking requests.

Myself, I generally reserve requests solely for those which I find truly inspiring (hey, it has happened), or if it's a contest prize. I sort of view contests as a "trade" issue. Winner gets an art trade, given of course that their "half" of is what won the contest.

To anyone else, I mostly say no. In fact, I'm getting to the point where if someone even tries to ask me if I take requests, I write them off with a "No", even if they had a request that I would take interest in.

But that's only me. What about you guys?

Hmm... I do them on occasion but not all the time, mainle due to the fact that I really hate my art :(

If I liked it more, surely I'd do a lot more.

Never been asked a request as of yet I don't think, but I would probley react with "there's better people out there, ask them".

I used to do it. Not anymore, they always ended up half assed. And most of them suck anyway. One more request to draw Amy Lee and my head will explode.

I'll do them for friends, but more often as a random gift and not an actual request. Although a friend of mine recently made a film, and at the screening, I saw a drawing I did for him my freshman year still hanging on his bedroom wall. Of Liv Tyler. I nearly died of shame.

I don't respond to requests anymore, not worth the time it takes to write "sorry, no".

I have the problem of putting it off for months on end... like I've said in another thread, I've yet to give up on a request agreed to, but I've also yet to finish it in a timely manner.

A few days ago someone asked me if I take requests, right on my FAC profile page (where I've clearly spelled out the answer). I told them to re-read my profile page and answer their own question ... then I later amended my profile page to answer "If you have to ask, the answer is no." Heheh.

I only do requests for friends, or if someone has given me a really useful critique which helps me improve. Most of the time, I just automaticly plaster these people with gift art so there is no need to request.

I worry for the mental health of those who ask for requests due to the mushymess that is my artwork and the capitalised notice on my profile. Razz

That's my problem as well. I can usually start the drawing shortly after the request but if I get a bunch of requests around the same time, the one I like the least always gets put off. Not necessarily because I don't want to do it, but I just end up hating it because of the subject matter I don't care for. I pretty much think my rendition of it sucks and I put it off.

I don't mind doing requests but it's so hard for me to get them done within a reasonable amount of time, so I end up feeling bad about not doing it. It's also hard for me to tell people no. . . . .
I'm not going to waste my time working on something for someone when they won't give me something equivelent to mine in return.
I know exactly what that's like. The first time I offered a request for anyone, the artist who volunteered for it, well... no offense to them, but I was hoping for better than what they came up with.

A bad first impression when offering a request... 'tis why I hardly ever give out request ideas these days.

Request?for me,I only take request if the person ask me directly by leaving a request comment on my profile or sent me an E-mail.Of course, doing request is entirely up to you IMO.I'm the more generous kind and do request for fun and ask nothing in return.

Q.Are you the type who openly agrees to fill requests for other artists?
Or do you reserve requests for more 'special' occasions?
A. I take requests sometimes. I wouldn't say its particularly "special" when I do.

Q.If you're the latter, then what kind of circumstances are they, when you will take a request? Obligation (such as contest prizes)? Interest (i.e. premise of request)? Random inspiration?
A. I must be confident that I can actually fulfill the request, that it is something I can actually draw without having to put a whole lot of effort into researching it. For instance, I'd probably take a request for something like FLCL, Ranma 1/2, Teen Titans, or something that I haven't drawn from but am familiar with they style for, like Ben 10, JTHM, Urusei Yatsura, Harry Potter, things like that.
However, I'd deny one for a show I don't like or that is really, really far from my personal styles, something like You-Gi-Oh (I bring that up because I got a request for it at one time), DBZ, Disney movies in general, Marvel superheros, etc.

Q.And how do you respond when somebody else asks you about taking requests.
A. I find it flattering that someone likes my work enough to want me to do something for them.
At one point, when I was doing lots of Teen Titans fanart, I got a few requests and filled them.
If I get a request that I don't think I could do, or that is really far from what I like or my style, I'll thank them for the thought and then very politely tell them that I would rather not take it, usually I explain why.

Man...I've been having issues with myself in the request department lately <_<

When I first came here, I originally was up for requests from anyone, because I felt it was an honor for anyone to take notice of me, let alone WANT anything from me. But...after a year or so, I got lazy. Either that, or I realized that some of the people requesting from me didn't want stuff from me, they just wanted....stuff. Like from anyone. So I was not special XD

I would have put myself in the category of...saying yes to all of them, because I couldn't say no. Until recently actually, when I got too darn mad about people being inconsiderate (and when it stopped being fun and started being a chore) and just stopped it all together and decided to only accept art trades. Those are better, anyway.

That too. If someone wants to offer me (specifically me) a request, I certainly wouldn't appreciate pouring out energy if they went off and asked someone else the same thing.

Hm.

I'll take them if from my close friends, and even then I may not complete them.

I'm more of a self-fulfilling person, so I tend to put my own joys before gift art. Not wanting to hurt the feelings of any more people, I stopped taking requests. ^^;

I may accept if someone has a really interesting looking OC, though.

Very Happy I don't get requests. Mostly because I don't really get out into the community or do fanart/chibi stuff (and hence no publicity), but I'm sure a part of it is that I'm lazy and hardly ever upload any art to begin with.

But, hypothetically speaking, the chances of me completing a request lie solely in whether I have an interest in the request content or not. Since most of my interest lie in original characters and Japanese stuff that no one here has even heard of (or anywhere else for that matter; a search on Gaia only turns up approximately 4 other people interested in Summon Night DX), it's hard to catch my interest and keep it. :X

So I don't do requests [s]except for that damn 666 kiriban for Brad DX[/s].

Hm....that reminds me of something. I'm sure you might remember that pic you were working on for me, that one you said was going to be a Christmas gift?

Still waiting XD;;
I'm sorry. ^^; I took a look at it and decided that it sucked major ass and I couldn't finish it. o_o Besides, your art is much better anyway. XD

I do requests if they sound interesting or if they're from friends. Otherwise I just keep putting it off and it never happens. People don't request stuff from me too often, so it's not much of an issue for me.

Sometimes I'll do something for a person because I feel like I owe them something... Usually those come out bad and I hate myself for doing them. XD That is why I'll never run a contest. I hate feeling obligated to complete a request.

I always want to do kiribans but no one ever asks. Sad I want someone to ask on my 4k pageview *hint* but that's still a bit away.

I think art trades are more rewarding, but I don't think any of my characters are interesting enough for anyone else to even remotely want to draw.

And I've tried to do collabs, which I think are fun but a bit strange. I always get disappointed because I do my half and then I never see it again. o.O

Do I suck that bad? Don't answer that... lol.

Also... off topicly...

Holy avatar change, Batman! Fayore's avatar threw me off for a second. Didn't realize it was even Fayore at first.

I do requests at the moment, mostly because my gallery is depressingly bare and I'm hoping that they will get me more publicity. But once I get more pictures in my gallery, I will probably mostly never do requests, because I am just too lazy. Razz
