Has anyone heard of this movie? It has Bruce Lee's son in it. I have it and that movie just blew me away. It had an interesting plot...who else has seen it? |

His name is Brandon Lee, by the way. I actually own the movie. I liked it more when I was younger but nowadays I find Brandon's acting a little bit cheesy. I think he could have blossomed into a good actor, it's too bad he died during the filming. It's actually based on a comic book, which I've only seen briefly. It was a decent comic book. The first Crow movie was the best. I can't stand the 2nd and the 3rd is just laughable. I think there is a 4th now. Hah. They also made a TV series for a while. Luckily, I didn't get a chance to watch it. |

Oh it was a great movie
not because of the actual film but the inspiration it gave me.
however i think the plot was WAY too breif and tried to include too much in too short a time.

I was not a fan of that movie at all. I may have been, were I not such a huge fan of James O'Barr's original comic that it was based off of, but I am. I loved the concept behind the comic, I loved the atmosphere, I loved just about everything about it... but as far as I'm concerned the movie completely raped it.
I'm not even the type to whine and complain when movies and books don't match up exactly. I know that books and comics and movies are different mediums that require different treatments, but that particular movie was so off-base a that little part of me died when I watched it. And I had such high hopes too.
Honestly.... among the bigger dissappointments of my teenage life thus far. _________________

I like the movie as a casual entertainment type thing. Guy in leather and makeup kicking some ass, alright, I can get into that. But when you actually think about the plot, it leaves a very "yeah....and?" feeling.
It's too....straightforward. Like you can summarize it and it's so flat and linear. Unjust death, return from dead to kill the bad guys, the crow is his immortality, kill some bad guys, bang bang bang, final show down, crap we're dead, die on the grave, oh noes how sad. :(
It needs more. Even though it all takes place in like two days, it's too simple. Look at stuff like Sin City, so much going on in a relatively short time frame. But as a casual "let's watch this guy kill some people", it's not bad.
But I do loathe the Hot Topic treatment it's gotten due to the concept. "omg teh crow roxxorz cuz it ish teh darkness!!!!!!" _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Fun Useless Trivia: the comic book version was written as a way for James O'Barr to work out his murderous rage towards the drunk driver who hit his live-in girlfriend and dragged her across the suburbs of Detroit. It was what he did in Germany when he wasn't actively trying to get himself killed via military brawls.
The moral of this story is that even if you've earned the right to be the biggest fraggin' emo-goth in Detroit and suicide is like the only way out, don't just off yourself like all the other pussy goth kids, go out like a man.
Then decide not to and make a comic instead.
As the legend goes, O'Barr became fast friends with Brandon Lee and felt responsible for his death. He refers to all the profits he made off of the movie as "blood money" and donated them to children's charities. _________________

Well, that's pretty much how the comic goes as well, with a few deviations. Except in the comic there is no question as to whether or not Eric Draven can be harmed. He can't.
Yeah yeah, they took some liberties with the story, but if O'Barr didn't mind, I don't mind.

I don't think his dialogue was supposed to sound as "candid and real" as it was to be lyrical or satire. Most of his lines sound very much like melodious poetry (and once it actually is) and seem slightly out of context with the reality around him. But again his caracter isn't part of the world it has been thrust into. He no longer belongs there, so it seems fitting that much of his dialogue not belong either. _________________
