There is a ZZ Top Gold album at some pawnshop around here. There's no price tag, so i'm not sure if its even for sale. Someone i know saw it, and asked the manager about it, he said it belonged to someone who used to work there a long time ago. They didnt ask for a price, or anything else about it. So i dont know which album it is. But still, a damn GOLD RECORD. And ZZ Top is a legend around here. So i am thinking of a starting price to ask them for it. I'm guessing its not for sale, and i really have no clue how much to ask for.
anyone have any suggestions? i'm not worried about someone coming along and buying it before me, i'm pretty sure its been there for ages. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), gold/platinum records are kinda "priceless". In that they only mean something based on how much people like the band. Supply and demand n' all. If someone's a really huge fan, they'll think it's a lot more valuable than someone who's barely heard of zz top.
And they're usually given as gifts, so it's hard to judge the market. Aside from Ebay, which is usually around $100 depending on the artist and album. Not bad, all things considered. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Well, i dont listen to them, they are more my dads band, i was thinking of giving it to him as a gift maybe. But i'm guessing the shop owner doesn't know anything about gold records, so he may think it costs more than it should. I had no clue they could go for that cheap :\ all good i guess. Thanks. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

Gold records...are kinda given away like candy. Depending on the label and the artist. There's a reason people as pointless as popular "rock" clothing designers have whole walls of them.
The only ones that are really valuable, and god help anyone proving these ones, is if like in the instance of Tommy Lee, he gave his original album/frame they presented to him for Dr. Feelgood to a fan.
But the ones the label sends to the stylist, the caterer, the producer, the guy who set up the chairs in the recording studio...several get out and around. Not a whole lot. Like I said, since they have no real value, just depends on the artist. If zz top is real big where you are, it may go for a lot more just 'cause someone would be willing to pay that. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Except who hasn't heard of ZZ Top? _________________

A lot of people. Out here, at least. Maybe you country boys like 'em better, but I know tons of people who have no idea who they are, or only a vague idea.
But it applies to people who just don't care, too. You couldn't pay some people to take a Warrant gold album, but there's other people who would I'm sure happily pay two grand. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
