Okay, I know the game is pretty old, but it's great fun. What are your opinions on the presentation?
Regarding the style used, I think it was very cute, but reminded me too much of the Nightmare Before Christmas. That's probably what they were going for, but it bothered me for a good long time. Especially since two kids you see near the beginning (forgot their names) look a lot like Lock and Barrell.
As for the playable characters' personalities, they were all pretty unique and vibrant (except for Ari, but Stan made up for that, ne?), but I couldn't stand Linda, Big Bull, or Kingsley. Stan can get annoying quickly, but I still found his cheesy lines and 2.5-D personality funny.
I liked how you could see which enemies were coming at you, but I ended up disliking how frequent the encounters were. As a note, I got really good at dodging those ghosties. And I beat the game on the first run on level 40.
The plot was quirky. Almost nothing fit together until the very end, but it was still an interesting twist. The little side-stories were adorable, too.
All in all, it was a mediocre game, but it was definately different and it had its own charm. The wacky cartoonish designs and vibrant colors had a lot of potential; it's a shame the developement team didn't flesh out the characters and surroundings more, but then again, those who've played the game know that the stereotypical personas were there for a reason.
Plus, the credit music trumps all. |
