Alright, don't flame me if this topic is in the wrong place because its been a very long time since I posted topics in a forum.
Anyways, I was wondering somthing for a few days now and I still don't know what to think...
Lets say, I draw some original artwork, such as characters, costumes, monsters, beasts. etc, and then I posted them on Fanart Central.
If someone stolen my ideas and claimed those designs as there own, how would I be able to prove that this person stole my idea?

I'm always drawing original stuff but I fear that someday someone might steal my ideas.
I'm curious, so can someone please tell me?

Technically they can't steal your ideas because they have no acess to your mind.

If they copy your ideas into say..a picture, that's a more personal-emofaggot thing you'd need to take care of yourself, unless you have actual copyrights on it and legal documents to prove it. But I doubt that you do. Just ask people to credit you like every other faggy original artist when they get overprotective of their work.

Hmmm...go to the artsit Abuse Assistance section, they'll help you over there. Or email the abuse team..or what ever it's called. That's where you should get some help. Smile

Taking Brad seriously can lead to looking moronic.

Congrats to her, she won my 1 week 10,000 post suspension.

Anyway, about stealing ideas, it depends on the level they do it. The only thing you have creative copyright on is the exact picture you drew. So if they make an obvious copy of it or steal the picture itself and claim it as their own, then you can report them to whatever site they put it on. Pictures here do have submission dates, but that rarely means anything. Proving it's yours is near impossible with digital work. Working files that have the save dates are good. It really depends on who you're trying to convince. DeviantArt is much easier to convince than, say, a court.

However, anything else is fair game. If someone draws a different character in the same outfit as yours, you just have to deal with it (unless you go through the extremely long and expensive process of trademarking it, but you probably couldn't do anything then either, at least not without spending thousands on going to court). All you have copyright over is the exact image.

I don't get young artists who put an extensive copyrights on their pictures, no one's gonna steal it, and if they do, nothing ever happens.

just name and date on some corner, bam.

If some game designer made a character off your drawing, i'm sure you'd like to get credit for it. I don't think Lynx is some over-protective artist. Sometimes art can be real personal and taking it away from and forever claiming it was some one elses idea would suck. I don't think you need to worry about that though. I personally think FAC is a place to put your art other than throwing them away like I did. Forever immortalizing them on that wonderful information super highway they call the interent. Slap on a watermark and be done with it.
just name and date on some corner, bam.
Amen to that. I've seen a lot of potentially beautiful pictures ruined by huge watermarks slapped over the center of them, and it really is not necessary. If someone truly wishes to steal on of your pictures, they will find a way to remove watermarks, no matter how big or how small, no matter where or how you place them. Thefts don't really happen until you have your name spread out in the art world anyway, and that usually takes a few years for an artist to do. Hey, I've been on the 'Net for a few years now, and I've never had anything stolen...I've seen pictures inspired by something I have done, but nothing flat out copied.

In other words, and as others have said, don't worry about it. Just sign your pictures in a corner and put them up. Simple as that:).

Hey, Lynxie!

What I would do is slap a pretty little signature of yours...smallish, y'know? Like near the outline of your picture...initials are great for that, and the year. Like "Lynx '06".

Well... If i were the so called victim (eventought it could be impossible that some of those bummers would be interested on my art... . . . .), i'd get it proven easily with my digital cam and also with my knowledge how the artwork got "born"... And also report to Artist Abuse Assistance. You can try out that as well..

Did someone actually steal your idea yet? If not, I wouldn't worry about it yet.
As far as signatures go... Well they aren't going to do a lot for you, because if someone is determined to steal work that you do there is more then one way around it. If you have suspcions, then personally confront them, and if they deny it and your still sure, then contact the abuse administration (or whatever it's called.)
Now I know I've repeated what other people have said... because I'm always too lazy to go through and read every single post, but perhaps I've helped out a bit more in some way Smile
