My last NHL topic didn't exactly fly, but this is playoff time and it seems more "fans" come around during this period. So what team are you cheering for and what are your thoughts on how they got to the playoffs, what spot they ended up in, how far they are going to go etc.
I'm cheering for The Edmonton Oilers of course. They were able to clinch a playoff spot on Thursday when they beat Anaheim, and when the Vancouver Canucks lost to San Jose. Yay. No Edmonton fan is happy with how they made the playoffs, but regardless they are there and I am fine with that I want to say that they are going to go all the way and win the cup, but let's say they don't... then 2nd round to game 6. _________________ |

Unfortunetely I haven't been keeping up with hockey this season.
So it's the Oilers and who else? _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

If this is the first you have heard of them not doing well, then I'm sure it doesn't matter to you much either way.
Vez, not much of a hockey fan? Then don't post. _________________ |

It's true, I don't really pay attention except in the playoffs. |

Detroit is always a good bet and they are still playing dominately.
A couple of teams that surprised me this year are Anaheim and San Jose. San Jose is HOT right now going into the playoffs. The duo of Cheechoo and Thornton are racking up the points. Nabakov is also looking solid. Anaheim seems to be rallying behind the play of Selanne, so they are a threat also. I can see these teams maybe making it to the finals.
In the East Ottawa would be my pick to win but without Hasek in net, it's hard to say. They haven't been playing well lately either. I would have to say either Carolina, Buffalo or Philly will take the East. |

go oilers! woot! if not, then go stars! woot!
my ahl team won the cup a few years ago, then our top two players went to the nhl and then my team sucked and hit last place the next year >: (
houston was contemplating getting an nhl team, but not even our ahl gets many fans, even the year they won it all. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

Ah, Colorado Avalanche. :woot:
I thought they didn't make it in this year, and maybe that's why I had lost interest.
Granted, the Aves aren't as good as they were with Roy or the other legends of CO, but I have a feeling they'll limp their way through the playoffs...somewhat.
Detroit. Must. Lose.
Now. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

Colorado just isn't a threat this year. They just don't have the depth. Their goaltending situation is shaky and unpredictable. Going into the play-offs with Theodore, a goalie who is having his worst year and just recovering from an injury and an unknown like Budaj. Their offence is still potent, but I don't think they can win without solid goaltending. |

Yah. But I've been a loyal Aves fan since I was four, so I'll stand by them.
Though the goaltending situation is just a little bit ucky. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

How dare San Jose boo the Canadian national anthem. I thought Montreal was the only place rude enough to boo someones national anthem. Damn them. |

Well the oilers pulled it off. After game two I thought they were basically finished. They've got heart, that's for sure. The solid play of Rollie, Smyth losing his teeth, all of them blocking shots like crazy, Pronger playing 30 minutes a game. Now that Calgary's out I guess I'll cheer for Edmonton. and Carolina. |

The Oilers are screwed. The team can't play confidently with Conklin or Markannen behind them. They better do a lot of shot blocking. |

Well that's that. Woulda posted last night but honestly I was kicking things and crying. This sh*t stings. They came all that way.. pushed a game 6 and then a game 7.. Who knows how many more years we're going to have to wait until they make it that far again. And to have all the guys that have been on that team for so long win the cup, woulda be awesome. Horcoff,Laraque, smyth, smith, staios, Moreau....
I'm glad they made it as far as they did and they deserve so much credit. The Edmonton team and the Edmonton fans were great.
