Okay, so like FAC, I was wondering what other art sites are out there.
I know the main ones, but they're not really what I find myself to be particularly interested in... Okay, so I do want to possibly start an account somewhere, but I'm not sure where...
DeviantArt I know of, but I will probably not post my art there. The community is much too large, and I have plenty of other reasons for not liking it.
SheezyArt seems rather interesting, and some people tell me it's pretty nice there. Also, it's a much smaller community... However, some things about the site really irk me unless I can figure out how they work, and I'm not sure I really like most artwork on there. I dunno, but from a glance at the recent submissions, they're just about the same as FAC, if slightly better. (Don't take this as an insult...)
Elfwood is another option, but though I suppose most of my art is fantasy, it's not really all elves and sorcerers and that whatnot, so I really don't feel like that's my category.
Yerf is a site with some really, really high-quality art, but their server broke and they've been down for, what, over a year? That's not the best incentive. And as well, furry art is not my specialty. However, if I could find a site with the same level of art not so speciated to furries, but just on general topic perhaps, (nevermind me getting in or whatnot) that would be just perfect...
Y!Gallery I've even looked at, since most characters I draw are male, and I don't mind yaoi/shonen-ai at all. But, I don't draw yaoi myself, so I've no idea if I should really sign up here... Also, I don't know whether that site seems to stress artistic skill or just a whole lot of guy-guy action. :/
So I'm wondering, does anyone know of any other art communities, preferrably more close-knit and more specific? I mainly feel like finding an alternative site because FAC stresses Fanart, which I do not often draw and am not that greatly interested in seeing other drawings of it.
And... I dunno, I suppose maybe I'd like a site where drawing ability is at least glanced at. Free registration is something everyone likes, I know, but I do wish I can find an archive that features more well-developed art for me to browse through instead of the constant elementary-style doodles.
I do realize that this won't be easy to locate. I'm probably too picky, anyways. And you can't expect really decent art if you're drawing something that would still fall into the category of 'anime', so I know I shouldn't be expecting that much. Still... :[
So, does anyone know of any sites? Or, you can also give me your own opinions/experiences on the sites above, to tell me some more about them.
Thanks. _________________ |

DeviantART - fine for what it is, it just takes effort to get results out of it. People love to bitch because they're lazy and want to click a button, have their art uploaded, and watch the praise roll in. Not gonna happen.
Sheezy - it was made by whiny brats from DA who didn't understand that there were rules about no furry porn and no plagiarized art for a reason. I heard they finally had to ban porn too (big surprise), but the majority of people there are still irritating DA rejects. The design is also terrible.
Elfwood - garbage. Takes weeks to get things approved, their standards for what is fantasy are ridiculous, the design is amateur, and the community is primarily brats trolling around. Don't bother.
Yerf - never heard of it.
Y!Gallery - people seem to like it, I've never looked.
Others...
Epilogue - high quality fantasy and sci-fi. It's juried, so only art of a high quality is accepted. The rest are rejected with rejection reasons (ie "unrefined/lack of detail" "anatomy" and so on). The community is decently close if you make the effort. Only a small community often posts on the forums, the key members are there. The restrictions for what is considered fantasy are also much more reasonable than elfwood.
Side7 - Meh. It really doesn't offer anything the better sites don't.
Renderosity - I guess the community is ok. I don't use it, but some of my friends love it. They're in the digital program and do a lot of 3D though.
Honestly, aside from juried Epilogue, most of the gallery sites are no better than any others. They're all full of crappy art and crappy people. The only communities with consistently good art are professional forum-based ones because most high quality artists don't bother with gallery sites (aside from Epilogue). They have their own sites and participate on forums. Eatpoo, ConceptArt, GFXArtist, CGTalk, TACO, and so on. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Mediaminer is one, though mediocre. The art galleries aren't very active, sadly, and the quality of a lot of the submissions are... er... low. What is also unfortunate is that you're only allowed 1 MB of space for your submissions, so you have to lower the image quality and sometimes resize your images.
However, it does have F.A.R.G., which I am a member of, (The Fan Art Review Guild, although we review non-fanart as well), and if you submit, you can get some decent feedback on your art other than "wow cool!" or "kawaii! ^^", blahblahblah. I guess it's a good place to showcase your best stuff and get some good feedback on it.
MangaWorkshop is another I'm a member of. Has a higher level of quality for the most part than FAC, but it doesn't have many fantastic artists, either. The feedback is pretty mediocre as well. But, it's still a decent site. If you post your art on the forums begging for critique, you can get slammed pretty hard with it by some of the more professional users that don't post in the galleries anymore. But it may take a while, since the forums are rather... inactive. _________________ FAC |

Well most of the ones I know have already been listed. There's also Storm-Artists (http://www.storm-artists.net/), but I don't know if it's very active. |

Wow, thanks so much! I've looked most of these over...
Fallen, I really like Epilogue, although there's no chance of me getting in... but I do like browsing through there, and it's quite an awesome site.
MangaWorkshop was interesting to an extent, but I don't really draw manga either, so that's kind of out. Mediaminor I'm looking over, and SA.N as well.
Thanks very much for the suggestions though; I'll eventually find somewhere, I guess. :3 _________________ |

But don't leave FAC, even if you do find another site to cozy in to ;_; we love you here too. |

Aww, you make me feel so loved. :3 Yeah, chances are, I'll be staying put right here, or at least still posting here. I've made a coupla real good friends, so I'm sure to keep in touch.
I was just wondering if I could find something like FAC without the 'fanart' stress.
Well, I'll work that out somehow.
Ta, anyways. _________________ |

You don't really have to draw "manga" to post there. Hell, a lot of posters don't even draw in an anime-ish art style. _________________ FAC |

I checked out the site, since I'm looking for other art communities myself, and according to this site's FAQ, only manga-style artwork is allowed and nothing else. More details are on the site.
Hm... Other sites include TheOtaku.com, which I personally didn't like. And if you're a digital artist, there is Digitalart.org. I also found a site called Animexx, but... It doesn't seem to be in English. Well, some parts are; but... Well, I suppose you guys should check it out for yourselves.
I'm currently giving Elfwood a try; just to see how it goes. And I recently deleted my account for mediaminor.org because it was being retarded on me. Hm... Maybe I'll give renderosity a try, although I'm still an ametuer when it comes to digital art. |

Fairywilde/fairy dreams -- basically about fairies.
CG Talk -- for cg pieces; 3d, PS, etc. Very elitist, worse than DA on a bad day, but solid (if harsh) critique.
renderosity -- like DA has many categories of art, but primarily a business site (so the store is much more prominent) and leans heavily towards 3d content; VERY strict rules on content especially with vendors |
