So,like the title says, what kind of shading do you prefer when CGing your stuff?Do you prefer hard cel shading, soft cel shding, digital painting, moe(not sure about name,it's sort of like a mixture of hard and soft cel shading. The shadow starts with a hard edge, but is blurred out to a soft edge) or any other style?Or a mix of all of them?Or do you have your own style?I myself perfer hard cel shading.I never was able to learn soft cel shading, and forget about digital painting.I'm lazy,so I just want to choose two colors(base and shadow). And I've always wanted to make my art look as if it were from an anime. |

I'm still extremely experimental when it comes to CGing. I find myself trying out all the various techniques. I haven't really picked out one that I prefer to do, although I prefer to look at digital painting and soft cell shading. |

I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to using programs other than MSPaint, so I really don't do this stuff myself. But I usually like to see softer, realistic shading. I was never very big on cel shading. :\ _________________ FAC |

It depends a lot on the style of the picture for me... a lot of my quick doodly cleaned-up work has a thick cartoony outline to it that doesn't look right with soft shading, like this.
Then some of my stuff just calls for a more painterly style, though, like this work in progress: _________________

I don't like cel style... it's too sharp for me. I'd love to be able to do paint-like shading like Kelly, because I adore that soft look.
However, I use an odd half anime half painty very vibrant coloring that's been compared to disney once before. Take that how you will. |

I prefer the "Painted Gradient" Style where you use the gradient tool to paint your shading areas, very intersting technique which creates great and very 3D looking surfaces. Other shadings I use are Soft and HardEdge Cell Shadings, GradientCellShadings, Outlined Paintings and realistic Paintings and Airbrushings.
Outlined Painting is besides that first Style I mention my very personal favorite _________________ - hmm... did someone say "MUFFIN"? - |

Mostly black outlines with soft shading.
I am trying to cellshade...but it's still very hard for me! ^^ |

I have 2 colouring styles I use (although, I'm not bothering with one of them right now, since it's so time-consuming, and it's really tiring).
There's one I like to call my polished style, which uses smooth blending/shading on skin (influenced by Masamune Shirow), an unorthodox cel-shading style on pretty much anything else (the actual shading is done in very odd shapes that don't actually define the form), and a smudge technique for the hair.
I use this one for my adult art.
Then I have one which is my rough style. I'm not sure what to describe that as. I guess it looks most like a watercolour painting. I came up with this by accident. Like so many other things I've done.
I use this one for my general art, but I've also started using it for my adult stuff too.
I'd show examples, but then I'd feel like I'm plugging my gallery. So nevermind. _________________ Taku Bell: My Art and Games

I'm not a fan of really cartoony art, I only do it a bit, and when I do its by hand. I'm into the panty-style.
My usual technique is:
Do the entire picture by hand in grayscale, scan, adjust.
Then copy the layer, and paint straight over the graphite sketch with many coats of colors on a low opacity (usually 43-67%..yes those numbers exactly). I sort of stumbled on this by accident when I was giving some photos the "Pleasantville Effect" and thought "Hey, I wonder what this would look like on a sketch!"
This was my first attempt (And 3rd picture ever colored in Photoshop ^-^)
My second |
