Beat em' ups makes me think of games like Final Fight, and Streets of Rage.

But as far as fighting games. Street Figther is the king of the 2D fighting. And Soul Calibur is the King of the 3D fighting games. That's just my opinion. But the side stepping could actually be used to your advantage in Soul Calibur. Which to me, made the 3D eliment worthwhile. The auto facing in Soul Calibur 2 changed that. Still a good game... but not as good.

Tekken and Virtua Fighter always felt very stale to me. The movement was never fluid, and the character designs sucked something fierce. Mortal Kombat started out good, but I think beyond the 3rd game the series went to complete crap. Dead or Alive was always decent. The 4th one finally fixed the parry system.

I also like the Guilty Gear series. Fast as hell, and top notch 2D animation. I wouldn't mind seeing a new Power Stone either. The 4 player action on that was sweet.

Oh and Tekken was never made for the xbox. I hope it never is either.

I love a good fighting game. Always a great laugh with friends.

Best 2D one would have to be Guilty Gear X2. The GG X2#Reload really wasn't much different, and GG Isuka was a letdown. Even if they put sidestepping into it. But the four player matches/three on one matches were a great idea. Very Happy There's just so many good characters with their little gimmicks and tactics. There's basic characters with their moves like Ky Kiske, then there's the characters that require a lot more thought like Baiken. (Most of her big attacks focus on countering your opponent.)

3D? I'm not sure. The Tekken games used to be my favourites, but I'm just not as enthusiastic to play them anymore. Even buying Tekken 5 only held my interest for a couple of days. Granted though, it was a lot better than 4. But I also like the Dragonball Z: Budokai games. They manage to capture the kind of essence of the DB world, and still create a functional game. The system for customizing your characters and picking their moves and items to use in a fight really brings some sort of strategy to your game.

My favourite would have to be Yu Yu Hakusho: the Dark Tournament. I dont play a lot of video games to compare to, but I really like the tag team fighting. It's actually takes quite a while to finish a match, so it's not as repetitive (if you pick enough people, anyways Wink). And I really loved the story mode. YYH was one of the few games that I could get my butt kicked over and over and over again, and not get frusterated. The fight between Toguro and Yusuke was awesome, seeing such a big guy get knocked over because you hit him in the shin, even if he would just get up and combo-move you to death right after. And the training mode in YYH is the only training mode that actually made sense to me.

I also really like Inuyasha: Feudal Combat. I like the partner thing, using two people at once. But it's only really good if you are fighting two-player... story mode was lame. But I have yet to play this game much, so I don't know, there might be more to it then I've gotten so far.
But I also like the Dragonball Z: Budokai games.
I don't really like Budokai. There's all these "super" moves that you can't block and they take away like two health bars at a time. But I do like how they recreated the story inside the video game, with the video game graphics and stuff. In YYH they just use clips from the anime, and in Feudal Combat they don't follow the story at all (because there is no story:/). And Senzu Bean is cheap. <_<

Then you use Viral Heart Disease to get them back. Smile

Yep I agree the best combo of support capsules ever.
Viral Heart Disease+Vaccine+Senzu Bean.
I like that combo! Though I had Super Spirit Bomb on Goku (in Budokai 2) and my friend came over. Please I do not know what he was thinking but he swaped Super Spirit Bomb with Contineuos Kamehameha. See told you I didn't know what he was thinking. But my favorite is Soul Calibur III.

SSBM wasn't really beat em up. To win in a fight you actually had to have an ounce of strategy.
