It'd be cool to actually read books that others are reading on here and talk about 'em. Anyone interested in starting a book club? A book a month shouldn't be too hard on anyone, should it? Or maybe even a book every two months, depending on how motivated people are.

Hmm, I feel drawn to this idea. I guess I could be all for it. Never been in a book club before but maybe I could start here... @_@

Cool. I'll wait for a few others to express interest before thinking of how to come up with a list to vote on what is read first.

Ok, I guess I should just jump right into this, then. I've made a list of some Cult Fiction authors if we want to start off with one of those. If anyone objects I'd be glad to start with something else.

I should probably lay some 'ground rules' down first, though..

1. Read the book.

2. No saying 'this book sucks' without having any reason to back it up. I guess the same would go for saying 'this book rocks!'

3. Try to avoid spoilers until after the 'read by' date. (Even then it's probably best to avoid huge spoilers) We want to encourage people to read the book, by giving things away people won't really feel the need to read it.

4. Just a warning: A lot of these books will probably be Adult Oriented and may even contain some offensive material. Each book will be reasearched before chosen for the month(s) and will have some sort of rating. If the book read for that month doesn't suit your fancy then don't read it, but do check back in case one that you may like will be up.

The book club is open to everyone.

If anyone objects to any of the 'rules' then, by all means, speak up. Suggestions for rules are open as well.

Choosing books: I'm thinking of having a theme for each book of the month. Example: One month may be Sci-Fi, while another may be Fantasy. I'm thinking once a genre is chosen for the month there will be a vote for different authors of that genre and then a second vote for books written by the chosen author(each one with a rating and short description..probably paraphrased from the back of the book or something).

I think that's all that needs to be covered for now.. Does that seem ok with everyone?

I'm really lazy when it comes to reading stuff. Unless you'd all like to read The Dirt, I'd be happy to discuss that. Or Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined. Razz I've heard Manson's book is a pretty good read. I may get it eventually. Perhaps after this trimester I'll have enough time to read something non school-related.

Sure, it's for anyone and everyone. All depends on who choses to participate and when. There are no set 'members' everyone's a member. Very Happy

Not everyone has the time to read that many books and discuss them. One a month sounds pretty good to me. But it all depends on how everything works out (People discussing..etc). Maybe in a few months when people aren't so busy we can up it to two a month.. I dunno. It also depends on the size of the book. No real set deadline yet.

That's cool. If you'd like I could put a list of books up that fit the 'theme' of the month so when you get finished with the book of the month you can check out some of the others.
