K-pax

I've watched this movie twice in the past few weeks and I really adored it. I like Kevin Spacey and in general love the characters that he plays and this one was no exception.

If you've never seen it, well it's basically a low-key scifi movie. There's no extreme special effects or little green aliens, but Kevin Spacey plays a character that is from the planet K-Pax.

Without giving too much away, the movie moves on from this and he is actually in an asylum of some sort throughout the movie and has sessions with his psychotherapist.

Inevitably, it comes down to is he a K-Paxian or not? I thought the movie very easily portrayed him as a K-Paxian but some people have argued that he was not. If you've seen this movie what do you think?

I think he is a K-Paxian because:

SPOILERS AHEAD.

There's no way he could have charted out the planet's rotation around it's suns even if he was studying astrology in his spare time. He would've needed a telescope the size of the one in the planetarium to even begin to study it that closely, and even then I think they said that the view they had of the planet he spoke of was very vague.

He could see ultraviolet light. I know there's sometimes an abnormality in human beings that makes them sensitive to UV light but that's pretty rare.

In the endish scenes he says "Now that you've found Robert, take care of him". That indicates to me that he was just using Robert's body and wanted to make sure that he was in good hands before he left the planet.

Bess is gone when he leaves. I think he took her with him. They talk about how they can't find her at all, but I don't think that's because she ran away. It's definitely because she was the one who went with Prat.

So, what do you think and why?

well, i loved the movie too. and i believe he is from K-Pax pretty much for the same reasons you do. i didnt think he was until he found the planet's rotation and stuff. and when Bess was gone at the end, that really made me believe he was. that is one of my fave movies now.

See, I was actually just hoping he was a K-PAXian through the entire movie. I think I would've actually hated it had they changed it a bit more and made him obviously dillusional.

really. i have the DVD, and they have an alternate ending. i really hated it because it did make him seem like he was just crazy. it pissed me off.

How odd. Was just at the video store with a friend and she pointed this movie out to me. I didn't read your post b/c I still want to see it and the spoilers would, um... spoil it.

I think I saw that movie about 4 years ago. It's that old, isn't it? From what I remember it was really good, like you said.

Yea it's several years old. I didn't see it when it originally came out but I was pretty happy that I ended up watching it eventually.

And Will, did you actually end up renting it?

Nope. We didn't get anything. We were just wandering around the store wasting time. I think my friend has it anyways, so I could just borrow it form her.

I love the plot of the movie, it was really great too how they figured out who Robert was...i watch law and order....I love this sort of thing.... Rolling eyes
