Do you use any special kind of paper?
Do you use a sketchbook or do you prefer single sheets?
Do you use gridded or lined paper and photoshop it?
Any special brands?
Depends on the media?
Tell us all, what kind of paper do you use! _________________

Smooth bristol for me. ^_^ Markers+Pencil crayons.
Illustration boards are excellent with gouache, except I suck at doing anything on a surface larger than 9x12 inches.
Strathmore and Canson are my love, don't know which one's better, one makes good drawing paper, one makes good watercolor paper... one sends me samples... one ignores me. ... one's American... one's French. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I love my manilla paper. I draw in a manilla paper notebook, it is mass easier to find all the papers than individual sheets. But I use normal printer paper if I plan on inking or charcoaling, or anything other than just pencil, because it tends to ruin other papers in the book. |

I just use a sketchbook I picked up at Target. Not bad, acid free, heavyweight, 80 lb.
I LOVE spiral bound. Otherwise, with all the page flipping I do, the pics fall out. And it's annoying to have to fold the paper over, too.
I have to put tissue paper inbetween the pages of my sketchbook to keep the heavily shaded pieces from rubbing off onto the next page. If I'm not careful when I pick it up, they all come flapping out like a flock of birds. |

Me? Strathmore 9x12 "Sketchbook" (spiral bound). 50lb is a little thin, but 100 sheets is a lot more to work with than the 70lb, 25-sheet "Drawing Pad" that's also readily available.

I have a similar problem... the sketchbook's paper is thin to the point that if I do any heavy shading at all, it imprints onto the sheet underneath. I used to use a sheet of Bristol between pages to bear the weight, but I lost track of it... fortunately, glass works well as an undersurface too. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Anything flat and clean. This includes my sketchbook, printer paper, test margins, manila folders, I basically draw on everything. But for my more serious pictures I tend to use printer paper (color images) or my sketchbook (b+w images).
Though, my manila doodles have unfortunately been turning out real nice lately. :/ _________________ FAC |

Ehm...my paper isn't from a certain brand (like Bristol or Canson) but I payed a lot for 250 sheets. It's 200 gr white satin-ish paper, when I ink it doesn't go wrinkly.
I use printpaper for sketches, though ^^ |

I used to use sketchbooks all the time, but carrying them all over the place would make the pages rub against each other and smudge, so I switched over to storing computer paper in a binder and using that instead. I don't use normal printer paper - I steal (er, liberate) the high-quality stuff from my dorm's computer cluster. My dorm is stupid and pays lots of money for good paper which people are constantly wasting. Might as well put some of it to good use, no? |

That's why I put tissue paper in between the pages of mine. It really works. |

I just use a hardcover sketchbook that opens flat. The binding is sturdy enough that the pages don't rub against each other, and I don't need to deal with that annoying curl that most hardcover sketchbooks get where the pages meet. I can draw across both pages if need be, too.
A lot of the time if I'm just doing linework for my own personal stuff I just use printer paper. I have for years. It's cheap and plentiful and easy to trash if you don't like where the drawing is going and fits perfectly on a scanner. Apparently even the program coordinator for my animation course, an old Disney and Nelvana veteran, uses printer paper instead of sketchbooks.
For paintings I use either illustration board or watercolour paper, mainly depending on the type of paint I plan to use and the manner in which I plan to use it. For just about everything else I use animation paper, even if it's not animation related. It makes it easy to transfer things so you can add overlays or meddle with certain elements without messing up your original artwork. _________________

At some point I used my art class' academe sketchbook too, but for some reason I didn't feel free enough. Right now I use printer paper, although I am craving to use a sketchbook lately. _________________

8x11 printer paper (my step-dad pilfers it from his workplace, so it's free. I'll not turn down free stuff!) and 9x12 sketchpad for me. But I've never filled up an entire page before (I draw tiny on paper!).
If I want to do a series of pics, I'll do it in a sketchbook so I can sketch out a little bit of each pic in the order I want to do them. For random doodling, I use printer paper. Of course, when I'm at school, I use lined paper for silly little doodles. C: |

I pretty much started off with computer paper, I found it really easy to use and easy to get. I don't work with lined paper anymore, I try to even avoid doodling one it, in case I really end up liking it.
I found that the thinker the better (for paper) especially when you use markers such as sharpies and prisma markers. I recommend nice sketchbook paper (Gachet classic sketchbook) ect. _________________ I'm just a simple MEGGY MAE. |
