So How 'Bout That New Hellsing Series?

Granted, there is a jarring amount of really crappy, obvious CG in it.

Granted, the music pales in comparisson to the jazzy score of the previous animated series.

Granted, they make some terribly awkward cuts from slapstic comic relief to serious drama.



But I'll be damned if this cartoon isn't giving me hope for the anim genre as a whole.

There are a few gawdawful drawings of Seras in this thing, but they seem to get their act together pretty well when the episode gets going.

In stills like this the ghouls look kind of like they come from the old ghostbusters cartoon, but they really have come a long way.

Never cared about this guy in the first series or the comics really, but now I'd hazard to say he's one of my favourite drawn anim characters of all time. Ever.

Whoa. THAT is some really beautiful looking anime, and that's not something I say often, if ever.

I've only read a little of Hellsing, so I haven't actually even seen the episodes myself. Too busy trying to buy the books. >>;

But this is quite inspiring. I want.

[Squidman]

The new series follows the books a lot more closely than the old one... The older series kind of passed the comic artist before he got into the whole Nazi storyline, so they had to BS their own ending.

At the moment they're pretty much just recapping the first couple volumes of the Manga, so it's stuff the other series covered. Even though it's old material, it's still a lot of fun to watch. It's kind of like they took they old episodes and waved a magic-sparkly-pretty-awesome wand over all of it.
