Fanart Central And Noob Problem...

I'd just like to hear some other opinions on this...

I'm not trying to be mean either or anything, but admit it, most of FaC is all noobs. [I don't really care about the spelling of that by now, don't correct me please.]
I mean, denis, you didn't exactly create a site just to be run by newbies, eh?
I know there's good fanart, but admit it, recent pics and pics of the hour mostly show rather amateur art.

Of course, I do like the free registration here, and I like this site much better than DeviantArt or anywhere else.
Fanart's smaller, but I actually like it better that way, as recent pics aren't kicked off in mere seconds like they are at DA, and when you look through the other users online at the time, you're guaranteed to recognize a few, at least.


But I guess what the point here is [I'm bad at this, I ramble...] that the noobs are here because of the 'FAN'art. I mean, I know there are plenty of good artists here too along with the newbies, but honestly, if you take a look, the vast majority of the good artists are all ones that draw original work, and not fanart.

So... is that why? I mean, the inuyasha, the sonic fan chars, everything... most of the time, I judge half of an artist on their username- if it contains the name of an official char [riku's_one_true_love, sesshomaru_12345] then, they're probably just newbies.


And here's a bit of the suggestion part; I'm not saying you should change the name or something, as that would probably not tide over well with the users, and I happen to like it just the way it is, but perhaps if you were to make fanart a bit more original-artwork oriented, we'd get some more, perhaps better artists? Or at least just stress original artwork some more, as that might attract more attention.


Just some thinking and mild suggestions, I'd love to hear some other opinions and feedback and somsuch.

FAC is based in fan art and that is what the majority of members want and it isn't going to change.

That said, I may open a separate site in the future that is more original art oriented.

As for the quality, there are changes coming (if all goes well next week) that will help give more exposure to the skilled artists over the unskilled ones.

FAC's doing very well for what it's designed for and as Denis said, it ain't gonna change soon. It may be added to but nothing will change.

Are you willing to share your plans about exposing more skilled artists? I know DeviantArt does that by picking out particulary well-drawn items and putting them down the side of whatever category your looking through. And, I'm curious to see what you've got in that complex mind of yours

It isn't noobs, its because most people that draw fanart are kids, and little kids draw crappy fanart, crappy fanart gets exposed because FAC doesn't have a real pic of the hour or featured artist system, we won't have that system until Denis fixes it, when Denis fixes it we will get more artists, when we get more artists we won't only get good ones but also crappy ones, along with the crappy artists we get crappy fanart....

and it goes on as a simple cycle.....

Most of deviantart sucks too, its just that great artists get exposed by the DDs and the most Fav'd pictures of the day, you don't get to see so many crappy pictures but believe me... they are there.

If we made this site just "art-central" we would lose the first spot at google for Fanart, we would be just another site in a long list of general art sites, it wouldnt work....

While I would like to delete the occasional (constant) crappy picture in the Shaman King section and the boring screencap referenced pictures, that's extremely unfair to the person who drew it. Fanart central is a wonderful concept-- people from all over the world of all ages enjoying things they know drawn by others. Personally, I'd leave it as is. :V It's no fun if everyone's a master at their trade.

I'd also like to add "Skilled Artist" is extremely subjective to most. :X

Ah, sorry, I didn't want to sound like I was bashing FAC or anything. ^_^;
And I can understand about how the young kids and all will not think it fair for their art to be removed, and I'm not saying that it should...

But I am interested to see what changes will come for helping to expose skilled artists, and I will be patient. :3

Ah, and the idea of a seperate place for original artwork is quite interesting... somewhere still somewhat connected to FAC, I hope, as the community here is still quite well... perhaps a way to add a smaller division that is for original art??

Well, anything you do is fine.
Hope I haven't made anyone mad, I was just curious and thinking a bit.
