Ahoi,
I'm just wondering, is there a limit as to how much text can go in a message when you're commenting on a profile or picture?
Or if there's a limit as to how many messages/amount of overall text can go on a profile or picture?

Because I tried commenting on someone's profile today, and it got cut off. The reply was very large. I also tried cutting it into multiple parts, but that didn't seem to work either, and my second message got cut off after just 2 lines of text or so.

So I deleted the messages off their profile, for the time being.

^^;;

I don't think there's a limit...

I just left about forty lines of the letter "A" on my own profile to be sure, and it worked. Surprised

So maybe it's just a problem with your browser? =/

Well, my text was much larger than 40 lines. And I've never had problems with this site before (I use Firefox). I have a habit of leaving large messages, because I quote what the person says, and respond to it. And sometimes they say a lot. ^^;;

I tried it on my own page, and the EXACT same thing happened (had to cut off the first one, then tried posting the rest in another message, and it cut off after about 2 lines). And I don't think my page is nearly as full as the other person. So I guess it's not a limit on the number of messages; maybe I was trying to type in too much. :wacko:

Though if that's the case, I still don't get why the second message cut off at only 2 lines of text.

Whoops, forgot to log in up there. Blast, now I can't edit the post.

Anyway, I just tried to enter a comment on my own profile of twenty seven lines and nothing happened. No loading bar, no "Opening page..." dialog, nothing. It just sat there for several minutes longer than it should have; I've uploaded large pictures quicker.

IE works fine for me :\

Did you put a <3 in there anywhere? It always takes off all of my post off if I put that in there.
Case in point, I ended up cutting my message to Leotaku into four or five parts! This is the first time something of this matter has happened to me in my entire tenure here. Then again, I've not needed to do a lengthy write up until recently...
Hehehe. Razz

Nah, I've never used that <3 thing.

I'm just gonna go PM the long message to the person. That should be easier anyway.

EDIT: Wait! I figured it out! I didn't use the heart icon, but the person used the squinty face sorta thing (>_<), which is exactly where it kept cutting off. I got rid of it, and was able to post my whole message, finally. ^^;;

Thanks for the help, Kari. Smile

I'm pretty sure it's because the < indicates the opening of an html tag, so anything after it is automatically "hidden" by the browser because it assumes that all the text after it is a part of the tag. So, yeah. Avoid using that when you can, or make sure there's a > sometime after it to indicate to the browser that the tag was closed. :0

I still think that instead of stripping the tags, the server should just convert < and > to their entities before saving the data. That will effectively disable HTML too, without the problem of potentially devouring the rest of the info.
