What If Apple Made A Game Console?

Seriously. I wouldn't put it past Steve Jobs. Lord knows they are seriousley lagging behind in this particular industry.

So what of it? What features, specs, hardware, etc would it have? Do you think it would be a possiblity? If not for this current gen then in five years or so?

I actually think it would be an awesome idea. :woot:

Since Mac hardware is handled/distrubuted ONLY by the Mac company, you wouldn't have to worry about nasty incompatibility issues with modchips and the like screwing up your console. The downside is you'll end up losing the ability to read and gain an even more stuck up attitude towards your console of choice.

I seriously don't like Apple. Too flashy computer and animated. They don't have a right-click button! How could they make a game if they don't even have a right-click button!

Well, technically it was a little late for Microsoft when they started on their consol. They had banked (as many had) on the prediction that PC games would overtake consoles. The idea of creating a console had been kicked around for years, but no one really stepped up to take initiative on the project. After viewing the PS2 in action, they realized that they could make a more powerful machine than what Sony was currently offering by literally making it a PC that was simply striped of all its functions and designed solely for running games. They named it after the DirectX program, which was what made the consol possible. Hence, the name "Xbox".

When the Xbox was debuted, Nintendo and Sony owned the market. I see nothing stopping Apple from designing an award-winning machine.

will they also have limited titles like the Computers Do.

^Of course. A console without exclusive titles may as well quit. An iPod is goign to remain $100 as long as people will pay $100, and why shouldn't it? People are stupid and will continue to pay such.

What if Apple made a console? Well.. what if? Who cares? There is enough choice and competition right now for it to be a complete waste of time.

I don't think this would be a good idea. That would bomb more then the CD-I. Considering, No one but MAC geeks would buy it.

I disagree. Steve Jobs has enough leverage in the electronics/computing market to make a winning game consol. I say Apple is past due for one, really. They have nearly no good games for their PC line and the market is too lucrative to be ignored.

The only thing I can see coming out of Apple releasing a console is a massive string of over-priced peripherals & Nintendo no longer being the market's whipping boys.

Because PC gaming has declined steeply in recent years, coupled with the fact that Apple hasn't made a huge push in that direction at all.

What makes me think they will get good titles for the console line? Because it's fucking [i]Steve Jobs[/i], that's why. Rolling eyes

Who cares about Steve Jobs... PC gaming declining? Yeah right. Maybe console gaming is on the rise, but I still don't think it'd be much good. A really bad lineup on mac (so you say) should suddenly be great because it's now got a controller & Steve Jobs?

PC gaming is on the decline. It is far less lucrative than the console market. From 1997 - 2000, PC gaming only went from $1.3 million to $1.6, while the console market nearly tripled. There will always be a percentage of PC gamers, but the consoles are really starting to dominate the market.

Also, when Microsoft started on the Xbox, they were also attempting to expand their PC lineup, which wasn't that impressive. Good games is all a matter of aquiring licenses. Steve Jobs and Apple as a whole carries enough weight to aquire those licenses.

There are rumours amongst the animation industry that Pixar's merger with Disney was step one in Steve Jobs' plot to make Apple the world's next omnipotent manufacturer of everything, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they made a game console.

but its so much easyer just to pust 1 button thats close to the selection button. Pluse the fast That I have yet to see a scrole dile on a Mac mouse.

though thats not my only Hate against them.
