Mario v.s. Sonic: a fantasy worth considering

Mario v.s. Sonic WHO IS THE BETTER HERO?
this match up has been ponderd by all who have picked up controller.
this forum will discuss the traits and attributes that each character weilds at their dis posal. So lets get it on!
first i would like to point out that sonic is fast but mario is stonger and can jump higher than sonic.
what do you guys have to contribute to this matter?

I think Sonic is better. Faster, better looking, not fat. Plus, he's not saving his girlfriend every freakin game. And his invincibility lasts longer.

Well, they both have about the same endurance. But, Mario can get a cape that makes him fly, or can shoot fireballs. I'd say it's probably a pretty equal match, though Mario may have the upper hand.

Mario vs Sonic, Sonic would probably win. Sonic's fast enough that I'm not sure Mario could hit him. However, once we start calling in allies, things get tricky. Mario's got Luigi, Bowser, Mallow, Geno, and of course, Peach. Sonic's got Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, etc. In terms of numbers, Sonic has more allies...but I'd put a lot more stock in Mario's (sorry Tails! >.<) I'm afraid that a Mario team would probably beat a Sonic team hands down.

Mario has better fighting experience because of the kind of adventures he faces such as SSB and Super Mario 64. He is quite acrobatic, and he can actually fight better at close quarters than Sonic. (I mean he [i]did[/i] throw Bowser over a cliff once or twice!) He has the luxury of throwing fireballs at will, and he can also counter Sonic's homing attack with a spin jump.

Now, Sonic's abilities include running at speeds of mach 1, meaning that he must have some very powerful legs and can do some nice kicking attacks. He has the spin dash which would allow him to escape Mario's foot stomp. And his invincibility power up is able to last longer than Mario's. However, the only fact that makes me lean toward Mario more is that Sonic's arrogance makes him over-confident and could lead him to failure in battle at the last minute. This has proven a weakness for him before.

But, I think that overall, these two heroes are of equal power.

You also have to consider, however, that Sonic is too fast for Mario's fireballs to be effective, and if Mario tried spin-jumping while Sonic was homing-attacking him, Sonic would be going so fast and have so much momentum that Mario would get knocked down [i]hard[/i]. Furthermore, Mario's added close-quarter expertise won't matter much, considering that Sonic can attack from any direction in an extremely short time at extremely high speed and get away again just as fast. Honestly, the staple of both of their fighting styles is jumping on the enemy's head, and when Sonic is that much faster and higher of a jumper, Mario has problems.

Granted, however, that if Sonic does get cocky and start playing around, the likelihood of Mario pulling a fast one on him is pretty high.

Mario has always been a great game character, but im going to have to go with Sonic. I find him way more interesting and his quick speed rocks! Way more of a fun character to play as as well.

Good points, but you're forgetting that Mario is SOLID and Sonic may be fast but in order to be fast you must be light meanig his attacks cant be heavy and rely on sharpness alone meaning that they can be diverted using the spin jump.
me being a martial artist for 4 years can safely say that this can work for I see this all the time in Aikido. diversion of anothers force. another thing that you forgt is that Sonic has to gain speed be for he can use it so Mario could take advantage of the first few moments of the match and get his licks in there. Mario can jump higer than Sonic Ive always noticed it. Ive compared them before. Mario does have the upper hand in power ups theres the caps,the cape, the fire flower,the hammer,the FLUDD,theSuper scope(yes that was his item originaly),the tanuki suit,the tanuki leaf,the frog suit and the super star. so if each were to have one of every thing hes got then Mario would own the part that concerns Items and power ups

Sonic wins. He has lower cholestorol, higher speed, and infinitely faster. his endurance? pretty crappy, but meaningless since mario needs a retarded pacing character to jump on woth his shoe of doom.

Well hey, the princess Peach is likes Mario And all the queers Ive ever met never acted like Sonic. besides its not who you like its who is stronger!! and so what if Mario doesnt have all lot of women he may be content with the one he has!
Mario isnt that fat,sure he's a bit...round but its only because he,s short.

I'm pretty sure Peach could beat up the both of them. You ever seen her swing that frying pan of hers? One Psyche Bomb and Mario and Sonic will BOTH be laid out flat.

For that matter, what about Amy versus these two heroes? All she'd have to do is use her hammer-spin thing to reflect Mario's fireballs back at him, then run at Sonic trying to hug him. Sonic would run away and lose by default ^.^

The thing is, Sonic relies primarily on his speed. If that could be prevented by getting him into an enclosed space, the kid's toast. Mario could beat him hands down in a brawl.

And let's not forget Tanuki Mario (ah, SM3 <3): He can fly AND camouflage himself as a stone statue. He's got some great stealth tactics. 8D

Actually, that's true, huh? The fighting arena would make a huge difference in the outcome. I suppose I'm used to thinking of larger areas.

Even in an enclosed space, though, Sonic's spinning thing would prove equally effective. So I'm not sure it's really as cut-and-dried as small space = dead Sonic. I think even in a small space, I'd put my money on Sonic--although I'd probably be more likely to lose it.
