Guns N' Roses' gig at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena ended with the band being bottled off the stage by a booing crowd. The band, plus former member Izzy Stradlin, finished their set early after being overwhelmed by the volume of bottles that hit the stage, according to NME.com.

Axl Rose explained: "Getting hit wasn't a big deal. We stopped the song and gave a warning. We came back and started the song over and completed it. We then said goodnight. The house lights went down and I got hit a second time, in the mouth, by a solid object thrown by someone in the audience."

"After having warned the crowd that we would leave, and having played more than two hours, we left the stage and called it a night with the full support of everyone in the band, out guests and Management."

He added that his bandmates had supported the decision.

No one likes GNR since our Velvet Revolver pals left Sad

Tough crowds over there. I saw a video of G-unit getting maliciously pelted by bottles at the reading festival. Why bottles, whatever happened to tomatoes, lettuce and other vegetables.

Doesn't mention the fact that he was over an hour late, and wouldn't go on stage until he had a roast beef dinner.

And most performers are thick, veg doesn't get the message across. Smile

And in other news, the sky is blue.

An average day in the life of Axl Rose. And there are tough crowds over there, pretty much to be expected. They were worshipped here in the states, and we've gotten way more stories of what a tool Axl can be.

More surprising is that Izzy can stand to do so many shows. He was holed up back in Indiana playing average joe for the longest time, just playing gigs here and there. Always hated touring the way Gn'R ended up doing.

But he is about the only one who left on somewhat reasonable terms and hasn't been completely alienated by Axl. The oldest friends of the group, and Axl has always spoke nicely of him. Izzy's the man. 8)

Hell, Europe would still boo and throw things if Slash, Duff, and Steven the 'tard came back with special guest Tracii Guns. At this point, a lot of people just want to complain. Axl's a little bitch and has made a lot of crappy and backstabbing decisions, but bottom line is...he can legally use the name however he pleases (no one probably remembers, but a few years ago there were two RATTs touring, both with former members). And the new songs are good and his voice is back.

People want '89 Guns back or nothing, and that's stupid. To waste such talent when he's in a remarkably good state of mind and productivity is crazy. We've got like a one to two year window before he goes off the deep end again, might as well enjoy it.

There had been hope the new shows were sure signs that Chinese Democracy might actually finally be released.
Any thoughts on that? I've been skeptical, but I'm always open to being surprised.

Meh. As always it's "about to be released" and "in the next couple months". Axl's latest story has been that it'll be out this fall in time for christmas. But it's been set for christmas for the past seven years.

Ultimately I think it COULD be released at any time. There's been enough tracks recorded for the last decade. These shows aren't so much a sign it'll be released as a deciding factor in whether or not it will.

After all, the whole problem has been Axl's perfectionist tendencies. He's chasing the latest trend, but by the time he finishes a tracklist, it's not new anymore. But really, all the past tracklists have been subpar. I was never excited about Oh My God and Silkworms. The only song I ever really liked was Madagascar (thankfully still on the tracklist).

The new leaked tracks...Blues, There Was a Time, Better, IRS...they're good songs. If they're received well, Axl will probably move ahead with releasing it.

Although look at it this way. It's guaranteed to come out eventually. The label has dumped so many millions of dollars on this project that if they have to wait until after he dies to release what there is, they'll do it. The question is when and if Axl will ever deem it good enough to release.

Mentally he's looking better than he has since the beginning of Gn'R and certainly a million times better than the failed reunion tour. So...the odds are better than they've ever been, but they were never that good in the first place.

Most people like the new tracks, though, and he knows it (even if he was pissed at them being leaked).

Supposedly they want to surprise the market with the release, and in my opinion the greatest surprise they could do, is releasing it the same day as Velvet Revolver will release, and that would be a great marketing strategy. So I think we might just need to wait until VR comes out to hear GNR...

Terrible marketing idea. Competition between them is the last thing Axl needs.

The problem Axl faces is that most Gn'R fans are still loyal to the original lineup and at least respect Duff and Slash for getting out there and doing something instead of talking about it (and most problems anyone has with VR are completely with Weiland). Being hostile to them only alienates people who would otherwise tolerate Axl's blatant disrespect for them and their contributions.

At this point, they aren't going to surprise anyone. Saying "it'll be out in a few months" for 9 years, let alone the time before that when he was working on it, is just tedious. The only surprise will be that it comes out at all. They're gonna need major promotion to bring back fans who abandoned them and prove that the new songs are worth it and better than the subpar stuff that was leaked before.

People already hate him for what he did to Gn'R, flaunting that by basically setting up a competition between the two would be insane.

Besides....VR ain't doin' so good these days. Rolling Eyes Might be waiting awhile for them too.

It will, unless their issues multiply and they get tangled up in legal troubles.

It's more about the internal problems, can't have a huge release and promotion without a tour to back it up. And the latter may be difficult.

All the blame as been placed on Axl over the years, but Duff and Slash are not the easiest guys in the world to work with either. Everyone in that band has a superstar ego (big problem with "supergroup" arrangements) and wants it done their way.

I'll be rather surprised if anything of merit comes from them.

Wait, wait... "Anything of Merit"?
And what do you think about songs such as Loving the Alien and Set me Free?
They are amazing arrangements, the main riff from set me free is the perfect sample of hard rock...... and the feel of the Loving the Alien solo is lovely..... musically, most of their songs are great!

No, I love Contraband, and they put on one of the best shows I've ever seen (but that may just be 'cause I was four feet from a half naked Duff).

But they've always been considered a one album group since before Contraband was even released. It's the curse of the supergroup. Because they aren't a "naturally" formed band and are basically a collage of popular and successful musicians, they lack the writing formula that others have. Axl and Izzy cranked out a ton of great tunes. Aerosmith, Poison, they all have their own methods for writing songs.

Contraband was a collection of good ideas they had and edited down to a great CD. The question is whether they can maintain that quality in a second, more difficult album, something that even non-supergroup bands often fail at.

they already have a couple of songs leaked and played live.... don't you think they will manage another album?

I do, and having Bodies, Embrace, Vengeful G-d and Come on, Come in under their belts they actually only need some filler

BTW, did anyone say split the thread?

Make another album, yes. To the level of Contraband, no. Anything they do will be technically good because they're all talented, the guitars aren't going to suck, vocals will probably be decent if Weiland doesn't screw up.

It's the writing that will make or break them, and I don't have faith in them to deliver anything near the quality. Writing songs with people is hard, writing songs with people who already have their own tried and true system is even harder.

Contraband really didn't have filler, anything could have been a single, and most of the other tracks are better than Fall To Pieces anyway.

Everybody left GNR cuz Axl acted like an idiot, and I don't blame them. Axl is the kindof "Yes, im cool, now SHUT UP" kind of guy. He thinks he rules everything.
It was propably Axl's fault that they got pelted in bottles because of being stupid in the past. And we ALL remember what happened in St. Louis in 1991.
