I guess this could be under Philosophy, too, but I just finished reading the first volume of Earthian and I was thinking about the whole pluses/ minuses thing. (For those who don't know, Earthian is about deciding whether the people of Earth should all be destroyed or not. If those observing Earth find 10,000 good things [pluses] first, then Earth survives. If they find 10,000 bad things [minuses] first, then Earth is destroyed.) Point being, which side are you on? Do you support the plus side or the minus? _________________ Disgaea's Overlords Dance in Worlds Beyond Infinity while Mifuyus Magical Multiplying Mole reads the epic Chronicles of Yord, and you learn that your Craving for Finding a Heart of Snow is Taboo in VG unless you dare undertake The Combine of Sin... |

Do you meen if we believe the earth is good or bad? I personaly think Earth is in the minus. Sure people are out there helping one another but it is so much easier to be evil and many take advantage of it. _________________

I think this world is in desperate need of an apoclypse. The culture of the world as a whole has gone down the drain. Even for those with morals, it is very hard to live up to them if you wish to make it in this world. Not only are we killing each other, but we are killing the planet. Technology has gotten out of control thanks to greed, and at this point, even if we were able to switch to non-polluting energy, etc, there is so much that we cannot fix because of all that has been done, and the huge populations of people that exist that we must sustain. |

This world does need an apocalypse.
But only after I'm already dead. 8DDD _________________ FAC |

Oh. Well, looks like I'm a Chihaya among Kagetsuyas--I disagree. I think people are good and we would hit 10,000 pluses before minuses. Yes, a lot of people are bad, and I'm sure it would be a close call between the two, but I honestly think that people are fundamentally good and we primarily do good. I think we could be--and NEED to be--much better, but I also think that we CAN be. We just need to buckle down and do it.
But that's just me. |

I never finished reading my Earthian manga. Read the first chapter or so...
But just in general, I think there's more pluses in the world. I disagree with what someone said before - that it's easier to be bad. That's not really a truth; it really depends on how you're brought up and your beliefs, etc. Not only that, but we can thank brainwashing media. 8D No one's really interested in good things, just bad things... so that's what the news goes out to find, really. :0 So our image of how people are in general might be skewed from the very start, hm... |

I agree with that. My neighbor used to tell me when we were younger that he wanted to be a thief when he grew up, because thieves were cool (I more or less quote). He was one those whose parents let him watch any and everything and didn't care what it was rated (until he turned thirteen, at which point R-rated movies became "bad" --.-- Late much?) Myself, I grew up watching Sailor Moon. Now he's in psychotherapy and I'm here. He's three years younger than I am. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?
Media has a very definite influence on people and the way they think. I think people underestimate the real power of it...even though they say it's bad for people, they don't seem to realize just how bad (but also how good) it can be. Media does brainwash people. Like into believing that stealing your whole life is good. |

I, sadly, agree with the minuses. When you look at the world as a whole, this is one bad, scary place to live. When you look at something as small as everyday life in school, what do you see? When you look at the big things like the war in Iraq, what do you see? I don't see anything but bad.
People in general are just full of minuses these days. What with lack of class, respect, and moral rectitude. Not to mention, people are just plan stupid. This planet is disgusting. And it's hard for the small amount of people who truly are good to try to make a difference.
One of the many reasons why I am the way I am; I'm in complete mourning for out generation. |

I think that most people are really trying to be good. I volunteer a lot, and I have met a lot of people who really care. In Girl Scouts, through my church, ect. So many people think absolutely nothing of throwing away 5 hours a week to serve food to homeless people, or whatever. And I mean nothing, they just do it 'cause it is the thing they do, they do not really care about being better than other people or anything. That always amazed me.
Besides that, it is basic human instinct to root for the good guy. Or better yet, the grey-area guy who might become good. There are always people who are all, like, evil is badass and cool, but if you look at the number of fans different characters have and stuff, even when it is, like, Sephiroth or some other bad guy it is usually because everyone feels sorry for him. I am just saying, if we are inherintly bad why do we even make shows like 'Captain Planet'? Or more relevant to us, why do we write bad, sappy fanfiction about Sabertooth falling in love and becoming a good guy?
Granted as a specie humans have destroyed more than any other, but we are also the ONLY specie that ever fixes its own damage. We ARE capable of great evil, but also even greater good, and that makes us special.
I dunno, I know too many people who are too good to be so pessimistic. _________________ |

I disagree. I watched G-R rated movies as a young child. Look at me, im a normal 18 year old. Varies person to person, perhaps there was family drama that you where unaware of. _________________

Do we truely know what is truly considered 'good' or 'bad' ? Maybe some of the bad, whoever is supose to judge us, sees this as simple human nature and over sees this. What if some good, to them, was actually the bad? D:
Maybe there is no real good or bad, just opinions/beliefs? D:
No se.
either way, Id have to say its a pretty close game. Though...Im going with the pluse. We are going to have earth live. At least until my life is through, after that, I don't care what happens to earth
