Japan...? Sure, it's nice.
Anime/manga...? Sure, I love the style.
If the chance comes my way, I'd take it. Otherwise, I'm too damn lazy and need my free internets. |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you think you're gonna move to Japan and make it as a manga artist, you're living a total pipe dream. That field is so immensly crowded the odds of you being a Japanese manga artist are similiar to that of being a proffesional sports star. I'm not trying to be a downer, just stating the reality of the situation. |

Both of you, the topic starter and the first poster, has no way of having success in manga/anime business. You suck, and you are so stupid, you think you can just "go to japan" and "be a manga artist". No one will take you seriously, no one will pay you, especially if you suck at drawing, which you do.

Everyone who like anime apparently wants to become a mangaka. I, unfortunately, went through that ridiculous stage. lol. _________________

Yeah, so did I, unfortunately. Not necessarily where I wanted to move to Japan and make manga or something, but I had convinced myself that my art was good and my ideas were original and I would make a popular manga one day. Hahaha.
I'd still like to maybe make a webcomic thing some day for my own personal amusement and satisfaction if I can ever master sequiential art. And finally settle on one art style. But by that point, I probably won't care anyway. _________________ FAC |

Now, now, no need to be harsh. I also went through the 'My dream is to go to Japan and be a manga artist' phase when I was 14. I would dream of how one day people would be watching my shows on adult swim and crap like that. Nowadays I can't even stand to watch anime, let alone draw it. I guess I must be turning into an old fogie. I don't think I could go proffesional with any style of artwork, when I'm working with deadlines and pressure my mind goes blank and I can't think of anything to draw. Plus I can't stand cut-throat competition. That's why, even though I'm always practicing and obsessing over getting better, I just keep it as a hobby. That's why you should just keep you're manga drawing as a hobby, even if by some miracle someone in Japan actually hired you to do manga, once you experience working in a high strung, super demanding, cut thoat competition environment like that, it wouldn't even be fun anymore. |

It's A-Okay to be harsh if there is no harm, harm is them spending their precious school life away trying to pursue a goal they'll never reach while ignoring more useful things like.... welding stuff and learning a second language. Face it, most people can't draw, you only think you can. Better to be let down in a fanart site then when you're being laughed at by an art college admission with your pathetic anime-goggle-eye-filled-whorebat-of-a-portfolio.
I'ma go into medicine, weeeeeeeee
My sister is going into translations and linguistics, probably: http://kimchii.deviantart.com/ _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

True, true. But about that "most people can't draw, they only think they can" comment, I think that all depends on what you think qualifies as art. Physically speaking, anyone can draw. It all depends on skill level. There's such a wide range of skill level when it comes to drawing. I'll show someone one of my drawings and they'll rant and rave about it and absolutely love it, then I'll show it to someone else and they'll think that it sucks. Everybody has different tastes and opinions. In my personal opinion, I think Piccasso(sp?) draws like a 5 year old, and yet he's one of the most famous artists known to man. It's all a matter of opinion. Anywho, as for the wanna be manga artists, I think they'll outgrow it by the time they're ready for college, or at least I certainly hope so. |

The problem is that the high school is the bulk of one's education, and applying for colleges take a long time, especially the work of putting together a portfolio, even though it's crap. And they can't draw, in a sense that their drawing does not mean anything to anyone but themselves. If you draw something, and it is no different then any untalented people, ie. the rest, can produce, can you really draw? _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |
