lol, i love this movie. so retarded, it never gets old. i read up on a bunch of stuff about the movie, and it has some interesting meanings, depending on the way you interpret it. like Jareth, the goblin king (David Bowie, lol...) is basically Sarah's dream guy from her imagination. and yet, he's old enough to be her father while she's only 15! O_o a lot of people believe that this indicates problems with her stepmother and Sarah feels threatened by her to compete for her father's attention. there are lots of hidden meanings in the movie, and i thought it would be cool to open a thread to discuss the meanings. Smile

David Bowie's costume puts a lot of emphasis on his dick.

I think this means David Bowie likes sex.

So much so that he stuffed his pants. I do love the shot right before the cleaners where it's just Hoggle and Bowie's crotch. Nice framing, whoever made that decision.

He's old enough to be her father, but most of that is intrinsic to the fact he's a fairytale king. If it was the goblin prince I'm sure he'd be much younger, but the point is that he's a vengeful, supposedly cruel king all alone and infatuated with Sarah. There are some interesting theories out there, but Sarah having daddy issues relating to Jareth's age isn't one I care for.

Besides the fact one can assume he isn't human ("Fae" gets thrown around a lot), thus is probably more like 624 instead of 39. Razz

I thought Jareth was hot at her age anyway.

I think Sarah has bigger mother issues, but that's pretty downplayed in the movie.

lol, youre right. personally, i dont like the fact that in a lot of the scenes all you can notice is his crotch. though, then again, i am a shade younger. sooooo, although i do believe David Bowie was quite hot in his costume, i try to focus more on the other body parts. and guys in tights bother me somewhat.

hehe, i had dreams about David Bowie after i watch that movie the first time...and the second...and the third... Embarassed Very Happy

Shhh, trousers....not tights. Labyrinth fangirls are so sensitive about that issue. Why, I dont know.

That costume was far less revealing and bulge enhancing than most of what he wore in the 70s. How conservative of him to tone it down for the children. Smile

Especially considering the two other candidates, Sting and Michael Jackson.

Imagine if they'd used either of them. Shocked

I remember Labyrinth from about the same age as I remember Willow. (I hated Willow with a passion for that one scene where the evil sorceror turns the whole army into pigs.)

Labyrinth . . . weird, in a mildly charming sort of way. Must've been the Hensen creature shop at work. And I never picked up any of the undertones that you guys are talking about.

i didnt the first time, but after about the third, i started seeing this stuff. and i just thought about this earlier, but the movie reminds me a lot of the movie "legend." the evil dark king after the young girl. also the fantastical plot and characters. they're strangly alike.

Never saw anything more than the first 60 or so seconds of Legend. Call it a bad first impression.

Well, I liked it as a whole. But I enjoyed Legend more. GG Tim Curry!
