I'm a member of the marching band at my high school. Our marching band includes the auxilary and the instrumentalists. This year there was a total of 53 or less members.

I was wondering if anyone else was in a marching band and what their band was like.

A question for those of you who are not in a marching band: have you ever made fun of the marching band and/or do you think they are geeks.

I am a band geek, I will admit it.

Only when it's really hot or freezing outside and they're stuck marching round and round the track. HAHA!

MEAN, Fallen, MEAN Razz Yeah, I'm in marching band, too. We're being royally fucked over by the school board right now. It seems they can buy new instruments, new uniforms, a new truck, a redone band room, a new director and assistant director, but all they can do for us is a half assed redoing of our room. They only redid our band room because if they didn't, they'd have to shut the school down. I haven't been made fun of... Lots of kids I know have, but I haven't. I suck at marching, but hey, that's OKAY! Our band has somewhere around... 70 - 120 kids this year, I'm not sure but it's somewhere in there. We're TRYING to get up to 100 so we can march in the parade.

The other band went to Disney world or whatever and I think eleven kids were caught shoplifting. That made our city look REALLY bad and now we can't go away to band camp because they fucked up. Stupid kids . . . .

We go to Disney every 3 years. We went this year to march in the parade. It was fun, but I messed up a lot.

This was my first year in the marching band, it's was rough. We got a new director and an assistant. Our director never shows up half the time and he's late all the time. Then he yells at people for not showing up. He completely missed our band banquet after he said it was a good day for him. Our assistant director moved to Kanasa City in December or some time near that. He doesn't like is job and is looking for another one.

We learned a drill during band camp in August. Then we took it to a competion and were told is sucked. Somethings happened, we took a vote and decided that at the end of September we would learn a new drill. We worked our asses off and were put through so much stress, it wasn't even work it, I think. We came in 3 out of 4 at the big competion.

Money is an issue with our tiny band too. We pay for everything, except for the director, assistant, and our band uniforms that are fairly new. We have to pay for the drill, the drumline instructors, the color guard instructors, and all the people that help out. It's crazy.

Our school is literally falling apart. I was sitting in English class one day and part of the ceiling fell down. Luckily no one was sitting where it fell. There's mold that is covering a wall in the auditorium. We studied it in Biology class. We have to jump over a river to get to the band room and the drum room is almost unaccessable. A new high school is in the process of being built, but it won't be done until 2005.

I complain alot about our band and how our hard work is unapreciated. Sad Our school is anti-art. They hate any kind of art. Stupid School Board Grr!

Yeah, our school's falling down, too. They tried to pass a bond that would make enough money to repair a bunch of things in the school, buy new computers, and new materials for the classes (INCLUDING art programs), but the bond didn't pass. The fuckers are so cheap. It's an extra twenty a month, it's not that f**king hard.
