TV company that is responsible for a lot of the dubbed anime that appears on TV. Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and One Piece were done by them I think. They're pretty unpopular with some people for the way they handle dubbing.

It's not just the dubbing, 4Kids is responsible for a lot of censoring, editing, and other "localization" of anime to make it appeal to a younger target audience than it was meant for.

I especially hate the way they cut out scenes that aren't even offensive but to just cut the episodes time and they cut whole episodes and sometimes even missing main parts leaving the series not making sense.

I don't even know if it was done by them, but Dragon Ball Z was butchered like crazy.

I read this in an anime magazine. Confused

From Wikipedia:
Dragon Ball Z was marketed to appeal to a wide range of viewers from all ages, and contains crude humor and occasional excesses of violence (which includes cartoon blood), which are commonly seen as inappropriate for younger audiences by American standards. When it was marketed in the US, the distribution company FUNimation alongside with Saban decided to initially focus exclusively on the young children's market, because the anime market was still small compared to the much larger children's cartoon market.

Beginning with the Saiyan Saga, severe restrictions were put in place for a cable program. From the Ginyu Saga onwards, FUNimation dubbed the show themselves with their own in-house voice actors and also cut some of their previous restrictions, such as the inclusion of blood. In 2003, FUNimation began to redub the first two sagas (Saiyan and Freeza) to remove the problems that were caused from their previous partnership with Saban. They also redubbed the first three Pioneer-distributed movies that were dubbed by the Ocean Group voice actors. The distribution of the redubs on DVD, under the Ultimate Uncut Edition title, began in April 2005.

Thanks, Strata. I figured it was butchered over something like that. Wink

EDIT:

An episode in Naruto suffered major butchering.

From Beckett Anime & Manga magazine, March 2006 issue, p.9:
In the scene where Gatou's thugs kill Kaisa, the domesetic version has the poor man trussed up on a huge pole, his arms hanging limply by his sides. In the Japanese version, Gatou actually has Kaisa crucified on a cross.

While I'm sure the Japanese know the Christian symbolism of their action, it should be remembered that crucifixation was a common form of public execution in pre-World War II Japan. It's meant to humilate any followers the executed may have.
4Kids Severely messed up TMNT... but they basically got SonicX right... They Did however, mess up the scene in which Cosmo was destroyed (Episode 73, i think) as Tails was supposed to yell: "Forgive me, Cosmo! I'll make them pay!" But obviously they edited it... The Blue Typhoon, if you look closely, also changed color for an instant... and there were a few other mistakes, but that you can expect... The other thing was there was supposed to be a scene where Tails and Cosmo were Married, and Tails was supposed to have Vector's voice...
