I wanted to ask anyone if they have any info for this bird I am currentaly taking care of. The story goes like this:::

My dad dragged me all the way to Visalia because one of his uncles died (cancer has taken him) And there was a funeral and stuff. Well he just ditched me and left me at my grandmas' house *shivers* Well, I was bored and started to play my GBA and after about THREE freakin hours my dad finally came back. Then we noticed that this little tiny blackish/brown bird must have gotten in through a window or something cause it was flying around in the house!! It hid in a corner and then when I got close to it it flew off toward my dad and he caught it. I looked at where the bird had been sitting and I saw a bit of blood. When I looked closer at the bird I noticed that one of the birds little claws at the end of it's foot was clean torn off! So we took the bird home, cleaned it's wound, cleaned the bird, and then we put him in a cage in my room and gave it water and some food.

Ok so here is the problem:IT WON'T EAT! I know that it won't because it dosen't trust humans but I don't wan't it to die!*sob* I first want it to gain it's strength back, and then I can let go outside to be free. Does anyone have any idea what I should feed it? I am also not sure what kind of bird it though........The poor things so small. Curse my good nature toward animals!!!!!

From the discription ide say a mocing bird because they arent fond of humans and the colors are rite so what I would do is give it corn mill with bird seed mixed in you might want to boil the bird seed first to make it soft... that should make it easier to get it to eat its probably stressed and it cant eat very much solid food if that doesnt work tell me and I can give some more help to yah!!

First of all, a lot of birds carry diseases than can endanger people and pets, so be sure to wash your hands really well after touching it (or best not to touch it at all). Smile Most wild birds won't eat in captivity. It doesn't sound like a life-threatening wound, and since you've cleaned it it may be fine to just let it go. The longer it stays around people the less it will want to go back outside. Or you could take it to whatever animal rescue place you have there and they can see about treating its foot. A regular vet, unless you know them well and can persuade them a bit, will most likely take the bird and throw it back outside after you leave.

If you don't have anywhere to take it, I'd suggest letting it go (as close to where you found it, if possible) and letting it risk infection rather than starvation. A lot of little birds have wound up in our wood stove, and a couple have seriously injured themselves by flying into a window. It's sad, but all you can really do is put it in the bushes and let it die peacefully. Sad Yours sounds like a quick antibiotic treatment from an animal rescue center would take care of it fine, and it'd probably be good to go.

Thanks for all the help. i think I'll let it rest for one more day then let it go tomorrow. It looks alot stronger than it did yesterday and it's acting much livlier too. But if it's destined to die well than my little sister will cry up an ocean. I felt sad too at the idea but then I remebered that everything comes to end sooner or later and with tradgedy of death comes the joy of birth, for it is a never ending shifting tide between the two. Oh, and I know about the germ thing, when I need to pick up the bird (I named it Takuya, after a dear friend.....) I use gloves and wash my hands afterwards.

This subject came up just yesterday on another forum, though much worse. It was a pigeon with a broken wing...talk about disease! It should be fine missing a toe, unless it gets infected. You've probably increased its chances of survival by cleaning it in the first place. I'd personally rather let them go than try to nurse them back to health and have them die in front of me due to not eating. Sad

Well, Takuya is starting to eat now (thanks to the advice of silver winged godd ^_^ ) So it should be okay now and last till tomarrow when I'll set it free outside.Another problem:My older sister has a CAT! But I can just put the cat inside a cage or something when I set Takuya free. The cat's an outdoor cat by the way and the bird's inside.(thank goodness).Well, anywho Iam just glad Takuya's eating.*sigh of relief* . . . .
