Pictures are now automatically scaled down to 650px wide (smaller ones are left untouched) and a link is provided to the full sized version.

This will allow those who use 800x600 resolutions to see them without scrolling without the need for the people submitting them to have to resize the pictures.

This feature will be made optional and adjusted for different resolutions in the near future but for now will be applied to everything.

The restrictions on file size remain the same (no larger than 300KB), just the restrictions on dimensions (around 600 pixels wide) are removed.

It may take a few days for the AP people to get used to this change, just bear with any size rejections in the mean time.

In other news, I've also improved the display of flash animations.

Denis, the automated scale down is an excellent addition to the site ^_^ it kinda shocked me when I went to the first picture, and the new window for full size (thumbsup)! I have something similar on my own site. Bruce

It's awesome Smile It took me about five pics down the list to realize it... but yeah.

Glad I wasted my time on that resizing tutorial.

Was anybody reading it anyway? Doens't seem like it from the amount of "I dont know how to resize" emails I get.

And its still a useful tutorial, resizing is a rather basic image manipulation ability.

Don't think anyone has really read it yet.. it was only posted a couple of days ago. I think a cropping tutorial would be usefull as well. I notice a lot of people don't really have oversized images.. they just don't bother cropping which leaves useless space from the paper or whatever they drew on.

Cropping would be useful

there may already be one around nobody reads.

Useful tutorials like those can be posted in the FAQ thread where they will actually bee seen (optmally get a mod to add it into the first post)

good idea n.n

especially since there ARE lot of pictures that deserve to be wider (like comic panels or pictures that are really short, but need to be wide)
and at least this way the picture that are just plain too big can't say "but THAT guy got to do it!!"

n.n so yay
much easier and a lot better for pictures.
