Fanart Central Awards

I was checkn out the otaku.com boards and saw that they have Otaku awards for members once a year.

So I was thinking Fanart Central could do this. Before I get full force into this I wanna know if anyone is actually interested. The awards would be for things like.....

[b]ARTIST AWARDS[/b]
FAC Artist award ( Best overall artist)
FAC Anime artist award (Best anime artist)
FAC Realism artist award (Best realism artist)
FAC original/creative award (Most origianl/creative artist)
FAC humor award ( Most humorous artist)
FAC popular award (Most popular artist)
FAC unique award (unique style)

[b]FUN AWARDS[/b]
FAC Hottest female member award ( hottest fem member)
FAC Hottest Male member award (hottest male member)
FAC Annoyance award ( most annoying memeber)
FAC Smarty Pants award ( Most knowledgable member)
FAC Avatar Award (Best avatar)

[b]SITE HELPERS/MODS AWARDS[/b]
FAC Fav helper/mod award ( fav mod/helper)
FAC Disliked mod/helper award ( most hated mod/helper)

[b]WRITER AWARDS[/b]
FAC Best story award
FAC Best writer award

Okay so you get what I'm saying now Smile

Those examples that I give above are not set in stone. This is a big project... but if it's gonna fly I need your ideas on what some good awards would be. I don't have enough for writer awards.. or site helpers/mod awards.. This topic is not to suggest candidates for the awards. Just let me know whether you think this is a good idea or not, and give some ideas for award categories :)

If this flies I'll put together the official award list, and will figure a way to take names for candidates. This should take about a month or so to do. Once I have a list of candidates I'll put together some kind of voting system for them. So if anyone wants to help me out... ... Smile

I'm lookn at u Lasher.. fallen...or flea maybe.. Smile

But yeah first I have to know if this will work .. so let me know what ya'll think.

They will not be chosen by me, or by a team. Basically what I'm thinking is first of all.. an email sent to EVERY fanart central member. The email will have all the awards listed and a space next to the award for them to nominate someone. I don't really wanna just open a topic here for it because not everyone checks out the forums. All the emails returned will be looked over and each name checked for the award they have been nominated for. Basically those who's names have come up the most for each award will be added to the official nominee list of five. Those on the award team do have the final say however. If people are just voting for someone because they are friends and their art just straight up sucks.. we have the power to dismiss it. ... Very Happy

Once all the nominees have been figured out, it comes time to vote. I'm not sure how this will be done yet. I can maybe set up a poll for all these awards somehow Smile

Doing it by email will be ALOT of work, a thread with a link in the front page site news may be easier, but it doesn't matter much to me if you want email.

Either way, it will be ALOT of work for that team, hope you get lots of Volunteers.

Voting by email will be even more work to add up all the votes, that I really suggest you do in a poll, but again if you want email thats fine too, but you'll be spending hours counting votes.

Okay. Rather than do the email thing for the nominees... I'll make a topic once every award category is figured out. And you can link to it on the front page Smile

I know this is gonna be tons of work.. which is why I say it won't be finished for a month .. or so .. Smile

When I was doing this for the school yearbook back in 98 or whenever it is I was in the yearbook club.. *dork*, it took some work. I'm willing to work on this one though.. i think it's an awesome idea. And I hope volenteers will think so too Smile

I think when it comes to group volenteer work on this.. it will be broken down. Each volenteer will be given like five award categories to calculate nominees (depending on how many volenteers there are).

I think each award winner will get a nicely done, proffessional looking banner.

sounds great, and I'd definately want to help out. Will you announce when you need volunteers? I'll be first in line! (or try, at least).
also, could we suggest categories? Like "helpful" or something, cause I know I love checking out the tutorials on the site and also, after starting the critique panel thing, i found a lot of great people out there willing to lend a hand. I think that should be there.

Hey Carter, nice idea. I'll be keeping my paws off this one though for the most part. You started the Artists of the Month and i took over that... *bites lip nervously* sorry. lol. So you can stay head of this project.

However i'd be more than happy to make a few suggestions for the writing awards. Don't forget there are different types of writing. Both philosophy, fantasy, sci-fi, humor. All sorts.

If they're a once a year thing, then why not take more time with it? Why don't you come up with an official date that each year these awards will be given? Give yourself more time than a month i would say. Why not set it for sometime in Nomvember? It's better to give yourself more time than little and run out of it, get what i'm saying? Especially since you've never done this before, so take it easy, thats my advice anyhow.

Thanks for the volunteer and i'll keep ya in mind. If any one else wants to volenteer just post here. I don't know how many volenteers I need but you may be needed Smile

So you think there should be a whole category for helpful member awards... or just one award for the most helpful member?

I'll be taking suggestions for the next couple of weeks on categories and such. I would like it if you helped me with the writing awards though. I don't know much about the writing sections.. so the help would be really appreciated Smile

I'll consider the date for the awards. November sounds like a really good awards month. Smile

And I didn't care that you went ahead and got the fac artist of the month together. I wouldn't have done it nearly as good as you did Smile

It was just an idea I was hoping someone else would pick up on and make happen. Smile

Depends who nominates you. They already answered how it would be done, and it will take, it looks like, everyone on FAC to pull it off, for nominations. The team has yet to be formed, but I said I'd do it first, then Isami, obviously Layz....

Replying to the e-mail could be tricky. Plus counting all the ballots...

My suggestion is that the team be able to take one category each(ex. I take realism and stick to those candidates, Layz takes another and sticks to them.).

If that's not possible, doing more than one category would be reasonable.

Layz should look over this one, because she's the brains behind it.

I do rock.. but not nearly as much as denis or lasher.. or fallen.. or kate Smile

They have done so much for this site and really don't get the appreciation they deserve.

Anyway. I'm off for the next couple of hours but I'll have it all figured out. I'm gonna map out my ideas while watchn tv or something. But me and lasher have decided it's best to take time with this. And the results of the awards will be shown in late november. But there is not certain date yet. But either way this gives us time to take a list of nominees and get the voting done. Each should have it's own month so we can take in as many nominees and votes as possible.

And the award categories will be broken down for the volenteer group.

I dont mind helpin out i have nothing better to do..... Also if ya think about it...this might be more trouble but i figured to let ya know.......you could put the most horrific picture, most romantic, most abstract, ect.......This could take awhile so just let me know if ya need any help......Ja Ne!

Ooooh yeah! The FAC humor and Hottest Male member award are like, soooo mine! They should have a "Smart Ass" award, atleast I'd have a shot at that right? Or atleast the "Lasher's Dog" award... She owns me for some reason... don't know how that happened :huh:
You should also have a "Best FAC Tutorial" award for those people who have tutorials on the site. I've seen some pretty good ones, real competition there. Anyway, if I can help in any way, send me an e-mail. I'll be sure to help out whenever I'm not busy.

Aw, you never know. You can have a secret admirer out there who'll nominate you and get all of his/her buddies to vote! XD Never say never, people!

As far as awards go, is it just more or less a title to give out or would you want to do a little graphic as well? Like a small banner with the award. I do those all the time for contests and gift banners and stuff, so if that's an option, I'll be happy to do that. graphics are pretty. And simple to make. X3
