Does anyone know how to copy a DVD onto Windows Media Player

A couple weeks ago, I had an ARCHOS Portable Media Device that could play videos, music, and photos. I had no problem with music or photos, but I just couldn't figure out how to put video files on it. Not that it matters now, seeing as it's busted, but for future reference, can someone help me figure out how to copy a DVD onto Windows Media Player, so that I might be able to put videos on my MP3 Player (when I get a new one)?

The MPAA doesn't want you to do that so they made it illegal.

Not legally. To legally get movies onto portable media players, you need to buy it from an online store like iTunes.

of course it is, using such programs like "1Click DVD to Divx Avi" that are easy found in the internet to rip a DVD into a computer compatible avi so you can then export it to whatever media the MP4 reproduces... is completely illegally and should not be done
