Which do you think is better in terms of conveying the emotion/feeling and understanding of the story?
And which groups? _________________

I used to be really obsessed with owning things, but after reading 20+ series for free, FANSUB/SCANLATION IS THE WAY TO GO. _________________ Hurhur. Yeah that's right. |

There are some things I love enough that I want a real copy, but those things are few and far between. _________________ Go Yankees! |

Fansubs/Scanlations, because it's the original, but I can also read it... And it's free... That's a big issue. And in manga the 'official' version changes names, what was said, and sometimes even the pictures. |

I, for one get when possible the official release of the series. Just recently I ordered Banner of the Stars II and couple mangas from Archonia.
I've got about 130~ mangas and couple novels on my bookshelf and 6 DVD boxes with few figures and posters.
Certainly cost me a lot, but I'm the kind of guy who needs to have his manga "touchable" There's currently only three mangas that I read online which are due the massive amount of volumes I'd have to get and that the last of the three is not being released in my native language or in English.
These three would be Naruto, Bleach and Doubt.
As for anime, I do watch fansubs, but whenever I come across series that I like , I prefer to get the DVD box before watching it online or downloading it.
In general, I do "support" fansubs and scanlations to certain extend. I wouldn't pay to use them. Since it's free and because these fansub/scanlation groups often sub/translate series that big companies such as VIZ, Tokyopop and DelRey might not bring us with English texts.
But basically, If I like certain series, I will buy it rather than watch it online. But due lack of funding in this area, I'm pretty much forced to only get the series I really like or am interested in.
Also, rarely the publishers start to change the language and image of the series. I know how certain American network screwed up One Piece, but let's not go there. Of course I also rather read the translation that's made by someone who is paid to do it and most likely has studied the language that's being translated. Not saying that scanlators/subbers are bad. Besides, I rather spend my time reading the manga somewhere else than in front of monitor.. |
