Hey eveyone, I was just wanting to see what styles and techniques everyone here on FAC uses. And if you have any tips for those that want to try that particular style/techniques. I, personaly, don't have a specific style. Which really sucks because I blame that for my lack of quality in my artwork. I try all and any new and old techniques that I find so really, my artwork varies from piece to piece in appearance. So if you would like to share your style, and/or have any techniques or tips you want to share-please, feel free. Thanks and be excelent to each other! _________________ "You can quote me on that." - Gray |

Well I use a semi-anime/manga tech. There really isn't much to it. I normally start off with the side of one face and go from there.
I don't really have an useful tips besides, don't keep picking up your pencil or your inking material pen thing (i use sharpies, but whatever) because it'll make a line that looks jagged. Just a smooth line is perfect. It makes it look no so sharp.
I don't like to shade at all. I hate it with a passion.
On werewolves, i don't really like have the faces (and dragons) coming off the page, it's more like they are against it.
I don't do chibis that often, and more times than not they look like a little kid instead of an actual chibi. I know it sounds funny but i'd like some advice on how to do chibis.
People think that chibis are extremely easy to do, but i really can't do them too well because of my freaky dollz. Which are found in my gallery.
Their heads are more of a block type and most of my chibis come out that way. : (
(BTW if you want to seek out my gallery, let me give you some help, just click the www button at the end of my post.) _________________

That's a pretty cool style, Brian. ^_^
Anyways, whenever I draw anime, I'm trying to force myself to draw the style similar to Fullmetal Alchemist, but my natural one is probably like Hellsing of a sorts. I'm still practicing though...
For animals, I'm working on a new one, the way The Lion King is drawn. It's pretty kiddish, but it's fun to draw too. |

Yes, very good work Brian. I've always been a fan of your work. I really like your style. Its very 'unique' if you will.
I'm still trying to improve on my style. It's very sloppy and looks like basic crap. _________________ "You can quote me on that." - Gray |

My style... changes. But the one I've adopted recently seems to have stuck. It's like anime, but it has some realistic-ish elements to it.
My noses aren't just little black dots, they're actually nose-size, and I don't draw them with hard lines. I usually draw a bit of a line on the bottom, and define the rest with shading. I draw my faces somewhat realistically. All the curves and bumps are there, and they actually have lips and cheekbones. On my faces, I try to do realistic shading, and try to bring out the bone structure.
And no pointy chins for me.
My eyes are a little on the large side, but not to anime proportions. More of an American comic size.
Here's two recent examples:

My style has changed loads as I get better, but I mostly draw anim looking people. I don't really mean to, they just sorta turn out that way... With my (kind of) new-found obsession with Saiyuki, I've started drawing droopy eyes, much against my own will.

I got back into painting. I'm painting one of the ceiling tiles for my school, and I've realized how much I suck at it. I have this ungodly fetish for clean, smooth colours, so in the end I do a lot of blending and the image comes out really soft.
NOT GOOD.
Waste of acrylics, dammit. If I wanted to paint the way I do, I would just do it on the computer. =_=; I just can't seem to change the style, though... _________________

I looooove pencil. I've tried coloring pencils, pastels, charcoal, watercolor, oil, acrylic. While I'm not bad with other mediums, pencil is just right for me.
My style is what I like to call dynamic realism. I try hard to stay true to correct, realistic proportions, but I love to interject here and there a few hard edges and stark contrasts, to give the drawing a more dynamic feel. At least, thats what I try to do!
My latest, a rendition of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill is a good example of my style.
There are alot of talented artists here! I'm glad to have found this site! |

My style is mostly just using the programs on the computer. cause any of my other art work, which i will never post, looks just fabulously craptastic the only time my art does not look like crap it takes me like a solid month to get the lines correct and the color a little praportional to the original. and i've only got like one or two of those kinds of pictures and any how i'm more of the CG style andy way cause you can get such clear and crisp pictures that way and you can always take back a mistake instead of trying to cover it up with the rest of the pic. |

My style is probably a mish mash of stuff I see that I like. I think the most recent one I've taken a liking to is probably from Bleach. Mind you, my stuff isn't exactly anime, since I prefer something closer to realism. I like using the computer to draw and color my artwork. I often color using the hard round airbrush in Photoshop, and tend to remove the lineart afterwards. I sometimes don't if I'm really lazy though. I do sketch occasionally, but I use Painter for that.
I experiment a lot, so I've been told my style is pretty inconsistent. I sometimes draw better after having leafed through many, many reference pictures. Sometimes off of Google images. |

So yeah, I think I've finally been able to develop my own damn style with no influences from any other artist. Thank God.
It'll still change, obviously, but probably at a slower rate now that I have my own personal style, yippee. Current example: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/43774538/
My lines are a little more jagged than they used to be, but I still mix realism and anime together to create a realistically-proportioned-yet-simple art style. No cel shading, larger nose-shaped noses (veery large in this particular character's case), realistically-shaped eyes, lips, but still simplistic with anime mouths, outlines, and very 2-dimensional.
I also like to give my characters different features. A lot of anime-styled art has one major flaw in that the characters all look the same, and just have different hair styles, or squintier ayes or something. Nothing defining. All of my characters have different eye shapes, nose sizes and shapes, some have bigger or smaller lips, etc. They're all "white" in ethnicity, but they still have different skintones, some being really pale and some having more of a tan, depending on the character's upbringing. So yeah, I try to make my characters special. They're still generic as hell, but they're special to me. xD; _________________ FAC |

Y'know, I've noticed your art change a LOT over the past year, Joou. I really like the direction your style is heading. _________________

My style is all-around anime.
Although my style of anime is more skinny and lanky. It doesn't have even basic anatomy, guys have hips and girls somethimes look like guys...
Yeah, I've gone thru alot of style changes but basically its this
Noses: not trianglular, more of a downward curve.
Eyes: somewhat small(for guys), and only a tad bit larger(for girls)
Mouths: One line, no break in the middle, and a small upward curve underneath showing the lip area
Bodies: Skinny and lanky, hippy, tall
Faces: Only a tiny bit rounded at the bottm, not sharp angles
well....that doesn't really give a description... _________________ Strive for your dreams...what else is there to live for?

When i was little , i had a sonic te hedgehog obsession and it got to the stage where i could draw him with my eyes closed! I think that has affected my style and made it really cartoony even in my 'serious' pics ^^

Ovecourse it takes many many months of practice to get their necks not lookin all...fat.
about 6 months but 5 just flew by for me because it was fun to be honest
Ovecourse for ORIGINAL style I use basic proportions but rather cartoon-ey facial features (Rounder eyes, weird mouths) |

Even though my gallery consists of computer-drawn work that is 2 years old at least, in real life my drawings are reminiscent to Art Nouveau, kinda like the great art nouveau artist Alfons Mucha. I love the flowing lines and floral nymph-like figures of that stye. |
