Should Main Characters Die?

I personally think that main characters should die sometimes. Especially if it fits the story/plot thingy.
What do you guys think?

Even though the main character dies, it can still be a good ending. I just don't want them to die stupidly, I'd rather they die sadly with some sort of dignity, cause...well...in Fullmetal Alchemist....Ed.......well.......he...................................

Yeah, a lot of series needs certain characters to die to keep the plot [i]good[/i].

And my one major gripe about characters dying in canon is that you'll always see people who're like "omg they're going to get resurrected rite!? this show sucks if dey dont!" >< (Damn you, FF7 fandom)

Anywho, I, for one, am a fan of characters - usually my fave ones - dying. (I'm a bit weird about that) ... (Take ep 25 of FMA for example). I think deaths of main (or minor) characters is good for a plot.

I'm sorry. I'm not making much sense right now. I'm really tired and I don't know what I'm trying to say. -.-;;

I guess.... death of characters = good in my books.

Key word: Main Characters.

If the story is about and focuses on a single character, then if the character dies, you have no story. All you have left is an epilogue.

Rather, a lot of shows and games focus on a [i]group[/i] of characters. It may be rare for a character to die, but then there are other characters to keep the plot moving.

Death makes such a beautiful atmoshere so, yes, the thought of main characters going to die sounds like fun. Misery and death taste just as sweet as honey Razz

Well, in my fics, main chars almost always die, so fine by me. As long as it's not stupidly and a wasted effort.

No you cant say that Ed died!!!!!!!!!!!!! But sadly true I was reading EP. SUMMERIES SAID HE WAS KILLED IN ORDER TO SAVE AL!!!! but I think main characters should die. Like inuyasha Kikuyo died or did she? Inuyasha sets out to find out leaving poor Kagome Behind *sniff sniff* I dont knoe what happens after that, Naraku killed her. Sad

Yes, I thin that main Characters should die sometimes. It creates a sense of reality in that one is not immortal, and that life is not all fair and happy. If Fllay had not died in Gundam Seed, then the ending would not have had near the effect it did on the viewer. Nor would the sacrafises of Neji, Chouji, and Sarutobi in Naruto. Even Neon Genisis Evagelion, one of the most aclaimed Sereis of all time killed of two major characters, Rei and Asuka.

no. <_< and in Japan's past it was considered a great honor to die in conflict, so that's why you could actually see main and side characters die in older anime but in the newer ones it's getting less and less ordinary since not as many people think the same way.

That also brings up an interesting point, since in many of my original stories my characters die at the end or sometime in between. WTF?
