It seems there's a growing amount of giant sig images lately. Please keep them small. If they take up most of the screen, that's too big. A couple hundred pixels high maximum is plenty. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Yeah....no more of those. Really kind of boring when there's a post a few words long followed by this huge picture of some anime dude or wrestlers. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Well then, looks like i reserve full rights to have a 600x800 sig considering i am one to go on in my posts. But hey, at least i have something to put in a post unlike those "Yeah" Mhmm, real nice <_<
Personally, sigs don't bother me if they are wider than they are longer. I hate it how a lot of them are so damn big but just pretty much long, and you have to scroll down to get past them and all you see to the right is blank space T_T So in this case, michael's doesn't bother me since it goes across rather than down with his sig and quotes in it of sort or whatever the hell. *Shrugs*
In all, Lasher once again agrees with Fallen. Why can't people be more like you? I would be a much happier person. |

Well it bothers me 'cause I don't see the purpose of having to look at that big thing over and over. It's slightly better than the absolutely huge ones of a character's face. But not by much. Sigs should have some kind of purpose (in an ideal world). I don't even understand how most of the ones that have pictures relate to the person. They seem to just be characters or things that person likes, which is fine I guess, but no need to have them be 400x600 pictures.
A quote, a banner, link to a personal site or gallery, I get that stuff. Big pictures are not a signature. Oh, and song lyrics are not a signature because no one reads them. I tolerate a verse (which could be compared to a quote), but no one sits there and reads an entire song no matter how cool you think it is. A signature, especially here, should be used to direct people to your art or a short quote that says something about you. It's really not a "OMFG this is teh k00lest!" space.
But to each their own, have all the character pictures you want. Provided they're small and easy to scroll past. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

If it gets to be a problem with all of the guess and check work, you could just go with the sort of restrictions some ezboard admins use... like "perimeter of all images combined cannot equal more than 1200 pixels, no more than 10 lines of text, larger text counts as two lines". With a system like that in place, people wouldn't need to worry about whether their pictures are too big or their quotes are too long.... of course, people who don't know how to resize pics would start a-bitchin' about it.... but it's just a suggestion...

*cough* Actually, that's not the signature I was thinking of, but it too is a little on the ridiculously pointlessly huge side....
So then, what should we do if we come across a sig that looks a bit too large?

I don't mine the wide banner sigs. Personally, I think that's the best way to make use of sig space. If a signature is something people see over and over, isn't a banner something you want to get people's attention? It's like free advertising.
As for the tall images of who ever the heck someone's favorite character is, you're right, no one cares. Like you guys said, small image: fine... large image: no one likes excess scrolling. And I agree with the lyric thing. Those things can go on forever. Maybe this should be added to the "read first" page for new people registering for the forums.
When coming across a large sig, I supose all we can do is kindly ask them to shorten it. _________________ |

Actually, I'm going to start removing them. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up and a chance to resize them on their own first. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I don't like images in the signature at all :/ It takes up so much space and is really distracting and annoying. I don't even like msot of the text ones. 3 lines is nice-- 5-6 lines..okay...but like 30 lines copied from some chat someone thought was funny or practically an entire chapter of a book...it's ridiculous. I don't midn the banners so much, but I even made one for myself, then remembered that they still brushed the annoying level for me, so I deleted it within 30 seconds In any case, I'm glad Fallen's getting rid of them. I would like to suggest a limit on the test ones, too. |
