Having just barely escaped being hit by Hurricane Charley, I now have Hurricane Francis bearing down on Florida, and while I don't think my city will be directly hit, there is that possibility. I will most definiatley get some really bad hurricane force weather around here. Schools are closed on Friday to give families time to evacuate. Landfall is expected around Friday (kinda ruins Labor Day weekend for me <_< ), right now it's a category four, but I think it'll get stronger. I've never been in any sort of natural disaster, and, quite frankly, I'm scared.
But what about you? Ever been through a really bad natural disaster? A bad hurricane? A tornado? Earthquake, flood, blizzard? Tell about it here. ^_^ Hopefully I'll be able to read a few replys before the hurricane strikes and I lose power..... _________________ 222.

I went through an earthquake... But I was really little. I was also really close to all those fires in California, almost all my friends had to evacuate, but I lived farther away and didn't... Not sure if a fire is a natural disaster though.... Only because we don't know what caused it. _________________ If I was anymore hardcore, I'd be arrested. |

I have been in many many natural disasters.. hurricanes, landslides, avalanches, forest fires, lightning storms, floods, earthquakes, volcano eruptions! even alien invasion...
I have even reversed the majority of these.. for you see...
I AM SUPERMAN
Teehee.. Otherwise no, I am afraid I haven't been in one. Actually, I lie.. I was in an earthquake. It tore a split up our old house in TRANMERE!! .. England. Like.. the first recorded earthquake in NW England in decades...
My dad patched up the split with like.. hard paint stuff and we moved fast lol
good fun. good fun

I've been....in a hailstorm ^___^ And the California fires, they screwed with me like nothing else >.o It caused this virus thingy to go around that reminded me of bronchitis, and I got it right before the talent show >.<
But...the hailstorm was fun We were driving to Oregon and maybe 5 minutes away from the border of Cali 'n' Oregon it srated to rain ^___^ My bro and I were sticking our arms out the window while it was hailing, but it was little so it didn't do much more than sting My dad thought we were crazy, though, 'cause we were sitting there going 'Ow!' every other second or so but we didn't so anything to fix it. Aaaand....I've been in two little tiny earthquakes, and I survived a tornado touching down a few miles from my home ^___^
My mom claims I was in a blizzard when I was little, but I don't remember it so I dun believe her. |

They probably start al over again with the names. Either that or they start making them up.
Hurricane Zarquad. O____o
All we get up here are blizzards, but nothing too bad. The weather is pretty mild, but when ice storms roll in and you have to get to school the next day, your ass is all over the roads.
Silver, Papercut, are you guys evactuating? o.o |

We've had some pretty bad blizzards up here before, but since it's Northern Manitoba, we've learned to live with it.... I laughed so hard when Toronto had that "huge" blizzard that dumped, like, two inches of snow but left the city so crippled they had to call in the military to shovel their driveways.
On the other hand, up here we've had blizzards feirce enough to make snow drifts that cover half a house from ground to roof and very nearly blow vehicles right off of bridges, as well as days where with the windchill factor it gets to be about -63 Celcius... and they still refuse to give us snowdays at school.
Since the town's in the middle of a forest, we're especially vulnerable to fires too. last year was very bad, evacuation seemed rather likely.... however we all made it through the ordeal relatively unscathed other than smelling like campfires. _________________

Ha ha, those crazy Toronto people... I'd like to see what they would do somewhere where there actually was snow... I used to see some pretty good snow in my days in Saskatchewan... I remember going trick-or-treating in a mild blizzard... bundled up in my snowsuit, the only skin snowing was my eyelids (pretty close), icicles building up on my scarf from breathing warm moist air out and having it freeze instantly... *sigh* those were the days...
Now, back to the actual subject... There was a kind of a tornado when I was... 13 or something in Saskatchewan... we just lost some shingles, and the window of our camper got smashed, but some people lost half their houses and had huge poplar trees uprooted... we found a trampoline in our back alley...
I also just missed all the huge fires that were in BC last summer... I moved back to Alberta just as they were starting to get really bad... Lucky for me, I guess they got pretty close to where I lived... yipes...
I live on Vancouver Island, and I guess there were some really small earthquakes, and some people felt it on the mainland... *shrug* I guess they're predicting a very large one to hit the island..

The hurricane has weakened slightly! Still a cat. 4, though, and it's going more north towards me. Damn it all. The thing's as big as Florida....
and I survived a tornado touching down a few miles from my home ^___^
I have never been in a tornado, but the thought of one scares the s**t outta me. Lucky me gets to be in the part of the hurricane that gets the most tornadoes...
boom. it's happening to me to. thankfully, i've been in quite a few hurricanes before, even Andrew.

Wow. O.o Where in south Florida do you live? And were you old enough to remember Andrew?
Lol, Florida is like... the sunshine state, the lightning state, the hurricane state, the Cuban refugee state....
i wonder why they have girl names and boy names! wat happens when the run out of names?
Dunno 'bout the boy/girl thing.... I think they do it to make it fair. *Shrug* And God forbid there's enough hurricanes to make them run out of names.

I've only seen snow like, once, so I can't even imagine a blizzard...
As of right now, I'm not evacuating. If the storm comes closer to me, my family might go to my grandpa's house, which is further inland then our place. But I suspect we'll just tough it out here.
Wow, that was long.... _________________ 222.

Heh heh... Perhaps this winter I shall take a photo of one just so you can see what you're missing...

Andrew, Hugo, Floyd and Gaston? Damn!
Floyd didn't hit my city; it got close enough to rip the pier up before it turned north. In fact, not many people believe that this hurricane will actually hit us, because so many have come so close before turning away. _________________ 222.

Evacuate for Francis. Come up to S.C. I can give you a few good places here to stay.
