Have you tried the manga? I enjoy some of the more poetic stuff that tite kubo does. It makes you think that the series isn't just an excuse to have over the top battles.

well... yeah, you don't like any of the interludes where they stop a battle in the middle to give you background of one of the characters?( usually the one that loses). it makes you care about that wimpy loser like he's the main character or something. I'm not the happiest with bleach but there are elements i like and that's why i continue to read, I'd probably be a lot happier if it was all about Zarakai's ascension to the gotei 13. but as it stands, i'm happy to watch rukia struggling with killing her friend the assistant captain... twice.

When I pick up a character-driven manga, I expect to find more about the main characters, that's why they are called main characters. Yes, Bleach is a character-driven manga, because it basically has no plots that all characters share, the main story is just a vehicle which to tell the character's back story. So there is no main story, just a pile-up of side stories, this pisses me off. Tite Kubo is completely incapable of writing characters making decisions without knowing what kind of outcome would entice the viewer to read.

There are shitload of flashbacks in Bleach, that's because Kubo can only present the viewers with the characters now (cool/mysterious) and then give a backstory (sad/uplifting/completely different from who they are now: with a reason). This shows how Kubo can't intertwine characters. It's soooo much easy to write backwards because in the past, characters are all separate without any of them influencing one another. Writing about the present and the near future where all the characters introduced are expected to intertwine in plot is SCARY AS HELL for this person.

In case people are wondering if I even read this, I read up to the part after Soul Society Arc, and then half of VAIZZZZZZZZAAADDDDOOOOO arc, where all the shitty characters come to earth and start acting like Japanese high school students. I've seen bits of stuff afterwards AND IT HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER.

I bet you know more about any of the gotei 13 than Ichigo-fucking-doo.

I've already said enough about this series, someone tell me when this series gets canceled.
