I have a slight situation, which really is actually a big, big problem that could quite frankly, make or break my future plans and any good possibilities of having the future i wanted to persue. Well, i started school this year on Wednesday, the 8th of September and things were just straight off bad. Last years there was talk about dropping French, and i confronted the director about it immediately after hearing about it. He told me "we'll talk about it next year, i'm not going to talk about it now" Which pissed me off and since i couldn't get anything out of him about it and it was the end of the year, i went and told my mom, made sure she was aware so if anything happened we'd be ready for it. Well, i come back this year, there is not only no French, there isn't even Spanish.

Here's the major problem with this. You require at least two years of one foreign language, to qualify for any 4 year college. You need two years worth of credits for the same foreign language. I however, got screwed over, here's how.

I started high school here in the Untied States, 9th grade, beginning of the year, doing Italian 1. I then took Italian 2 the next year after that. However, i changed from my local high school, New Providence High, to Milton, the school i'm going to now, before the end of my sophmore year. And Milton did not have any Italian so i couldn't finish it, or so i thought but that will be mentioned more later on. So the plan was, have an extra art class or what not to finish the rest of my year until the next school year, my junior year, in which i could start French, and then take that my two last years of High School.

So i did that, hated it like i always have (took it in the UK and in the 6th grade) And i came back this year, after taking French my junior year, only to have no French course available at all anymore! Grr! There isn't even a freakin spanish class anymore, not that i care really about that because if there was, it wouldn't do me any good! Now would it <_< So unless they get a French teacher quick, i'm going to be put in a really, really bad situation where my whole chance of going to a good college is basically out the window because i won't have my two full years of a foreign la

And the sad thing is, is i found out last year near the end of the year, that when i first started at Milton, they could have set something up if they really wanted to, to where i could get someone to teach me the rest of the school year italian so i'd had my two years down right there. They could have had someone come to milton for it at the end of the day, they could have set it up so someone did it to where they came to my house after i got out of school, or even sent me back to my district for one period to finish that up and get it done with then!

I'm going to have a meeting possibly meetings...about it this week and get it sort out if i can and see what we can do about it. I could go back to district possibly but because i haven't had any reason to use Italian at all the past year and a half, i don't really remember any of it barely. So i'd have to go into Italian 1 and i'd be in there with freaking Freshmen who'd i'd probably more than likely lose my cool with and want to knock them out. Not to mention the trouble going back and forth between schools now especially with my having to get a new job which will put more mileage on our truck and we can only put so much on it monthly, and it's pissing me off that i haven't to f**k with my life because they screwed up.

Some people have talked about lawyers, i told them they could do it and i might look into it and try and threaten action to the board that looks over Milton so they step in and hopefully get us something because the director will never tell them as it is, they never do at that school.

The idea that someone is f**king with my future, really pisses me off. And i'm just so stressed out and this is the last thing i need to worry about my senior year. I should be worrying about applying to colleges and getting other things done, not this bullshit.

We need 4 years. Your situation is eerily similar to mine. That's why I went into ROTC. Should I stay the full 4 years, I will recieve a scholarship to a military academy of my choice. I need this. Badly.

Lasher, you make damn well sure that they get that teacher. You're way too gifted to go through this.

Isn't there a community college somewhere near you? That's what the people here did when French was cut. Go there, get a second credit, problem solved. It was a bit of a drive, but there were enough people they just ran a small shuttle bus there at the end of the day.

That's what people at your high school are doing Fallen?

There are community colleges. A lot of people who go to college from Milton only go to community how sad. I'm the ooas planning on going to a full on 4 year college with dorms and everything sort of thing. *shrugs* Some kids at our school leave early to go to work and get credits for that, and some take a college class or two so that could very well be possible. It's something i'll have to ask them about.

And yeah flea, i'm working on getting it sorted. Trust me hun, i'm not keeping quiet about this. If it's not being sorted out by Wednesday, i'm going to contact Millburns Board Of Education directly. I also talked to the students at the school and told them to write out any letters of complaints about it, as well as their parents if they could and hand them in to me for the student council to send out. Yeah, i'm on student council, is that surprising?

Yes, i wanted to go and get my Bachlors of Business and Adminstration, and eventually get my masters in it. I was also planning on working on getting my certifcate in paralegal since i've been doing that as a job almost for the past year and half. I plan on going to school for quite a long time actually. I've been talking to my councelors about it for years now. I'll continue going to college if possible for more than 4 years, depending on where i am after four years i may try to get into a college like Columbia in NYC which is a very difficult school, or who knows, maybe Harvard for business depending how much i like it.

I plan on having my own business someday. I'll probably keep from starting on until i'm older though, i prefer to manage for sometime, get a good job going and stable income for many years and continuing my studies.

There's not much point going into it right now though and i won't be any further with my councelors until i know i about the whole foreign language thing is settled.

Forgive me if this may sound real dumb, but is it strictly required that you have 2 years worth of credits for foreign language to be able to qualify for a good 4-year college?

Because right now, I'm a senior too and I'm taking Spanish 1. They said that foreign language counts as an elective so I really didn't worry about it. I have enough elective credits. I'm confused whether you really need it or not. The former high school I went to had different requirements than my present school, so, yeah, I'm kinda lost. The guidance counselors aren't much of a help either, since they're always too busy with something else.

I dont know how it is there, but here you can get into a college without any language, then transfer to a university from there after a year or 2. You could just do your first 2 years at a college.

I know what its like to have HS screw you over, I managed to get through ok, but a friend never got math 12. They couldn't fit it into his schedule.

Yeah, they cut French and German and gave the students who had already started the choice to continue it with a computer program that supposedly taught everything in the course or take the language at the community college. Most opted for the real class, since most language computer programs suck. They still offered upper level German because the teacher happened to teach computer classes as well, unlike the French teacher who only taught the language.

I just got off the phone with my case worker and i suggested what you told me Fallen, however she wants to give my director time <_< So before she'll even go to the board with those suggestions to see what they think, let alone their permission, we're waiting another week or two for this director *mutters*

What's really frustrating, is i have 3 years of French under my belt at a college all ready, just not in an american high school. They're refusing to recognizeve taken the courses all ready because it wasn't at a high school level, which isn't true because i was in high school in the UK and we were actually taught more in that class about french than we do here and that class was horrible! no seriously, my class broke the door of it's hinges three times, and broke the windows and got the teacher to quit. And yet we still learned more at a higher level there!

I'm sitting here crying like a baby, i'm so f**king pissed off. I really need a drink *eyes looks blood shot*

I remember you telling me about this last night. Wish there was something I could do, lasher, other than say what had already been said: This sucks, and I feel for you. Sad
