So i was written up at work for calling out excessively and having attendance issues. Lets see, Jan 1st i called out because of a family emergency. Which they are made i didn't find coverage but who thinks about finding coverage when theres a FAMILY EMERGENCY!
I've had a cold i couldn't shake since dec which got worse and worse. Finally went to the dr and was told not to go to work and rest in bed for two days. Have a note stating i was seen and i wasn't to return to work for two days and they have the balls to write me up? I wish bad, badddd karma upon that place.
That right there is why they wrote me up. First time i've ever been written up and i've been there 2 and half years. |

People do get sick, emergencies do happen.
Unfortunately, there are also people who think that sick days are essentially extra vacation time.
Several emergencies/sicknesses happening in sequence probably made the bosses start doubting which side of the line they're dealing with.
(As if I should talk, I have only called in maybe twice in five years and both were due to flooding.) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Where do you live? Holland?
I called in sick twice in the two and a half years I worked in the butcher shop. Once was because of flu. Not the made-up kind.
There was this guy who called in sick nearly everyday because of "bad egg sandwiches" he got fired few months after that.
Working at the butchershop during the Maple Leaf recall was the worst. People keep bringing half-eaten packages of non-recalled food and expect returns. God, I hate people. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

My brother in law is required to bring in evidence of family emergencies. He has had to take in to his boss for records obituaries for my fathers death, my mothers death, his fathers death, and a couple other of his family members.
I do not get the luxory to call in for just anything, it has to be major. My calling in could potentially get my employer her job lost because the casino doesn't give a shit. Lets put it this way, She had points deducted when her mother passed and she did not go in and her mother was employed at the same casino. I spent eight hours in the ER with bronchitis and had to be into into work the next day because they where shorthanded so they say. I've called in only once in the last ten years. _________________ RPG-n. PTO at my company, all of it, is used as sick days or vacation. they don't give you 2 weeks vacation then 5 sick days. So i could use all of for vacation or all of it for sick days.
And the fact they expected me to find coverage during a family emergency in a hospital, in a ER...yeah, go fuck yourself. My boss leaves early all the time and they sit in the back 80% of the time when they should only be back there 40% of they're scheduled time.
They get pissed off at me cause last year during the spring i called out one day but i was able to get someone to cover me. They were still mad cause they didn't like the person. WTF? And they tried asking me why i called out sick. Sorry, you can't legally ask me I know this shit.
I got food poisoning after some bad sushi too in August. They actually called my cellphone multiple times that night until my mom got pissed off and called them back and spoke to my manager. It was out on the dining room table and it kept going off and she saw it was them. When she asked my boss why they kept calling when i called out sick, my boss said she had no idea. My mom then told her she had their number on caller id calling my cellphone half a dozen times. She told them it was borderline harassment and they needed to stop calling or she was going to call her district mgr When i went in the next day everyone told me how my boss went over head set yelling at the other mgrs for calling me. She didn't talk to me for a week...it was a very peaceful week |

About three miles away from a U.S. highway that is only about ten feet above water level and as such, when we get a good wet coastal storm the highway goes under by about 2-3 feet of water. Happens about every other year.
PTO at my company, all of it, is used as sick days or vacation. they don't give you 2 weeks vacation then 5 sick days. So i could use all of for vacation or all of it for sick days.
Ah, so they don't make any distinction between the two?
My boss leaves early all the time and they sit in the back 80% of the time when they should only be back there 40% of they're scheduled time.
Management is often salaried, so if it's a slow day they can clock out early and still get paid the same. The flipside, of course, is that they don't get paid extra for unscheduled overtime, and everyone else still expects them to be there during their scheduled shifts.
I got food poisoning after some bad sushi too in August.
The last time I got sick was also because of food poisoning, but it wasn't bad and I was still able to work (albeit feeling really crappy). Turned out the milk in the fridge was going bad. (And Mom still occasionally wonders why I don't trust milk past its cutoff date...)
As for your managers, a communication breakdown between managers is a Bad Thing.

Wanna swap stories? For one, Fred Meyer has a "No Hassle Return" policy meaning that as long as the customer has their receipt they can return an item pretty much regardless of what it is or why. With some exceptions of course (obviously music/software/games) but I don't work in the frontend so I don't know all the fine print. I just know that they hand damaged/returned items back to us with a "Do Not Restock" label or a return receipt on it (with an added reason e.g. "pet didn't eat it" on a 20# bag of kibble)

Yeah, our pto isn't divided. It's simply PTO. You can use it all for vacation or all for sick days or whatever way you want. The managers are salaried but it's company policy they have to pull in 40hrs. Our company does not like paying them for 40hrs unless they actually work the 40 hrs. I use to be mgmt there before i took a step down to go to school full time. Which is why i have issues with the write up in the first place. I know they all the policies and paperwork and employees can't be forced or bullied into coming into a shift or finding coverage.
We also schedule on calls. These are shifts your scheduled for in case someone is sick, goes home early, has an emergency or simply we're busy and need the extra help or making good money and have extra hours to blow. They had on calls but they got mad when the associate they called in told them halfway through her shift she had a dentist appt she never told them about or requested off for so she wasn't scheduled. Apparently cried about missing it so they let her go. lol. Not my fault issue.
They also violated HIPPA laws asking me why/how i was sick and what was going on with my family issues. Employers are not permitted to ask such questions and by law employees do not have to disclose why they are calling out I also know this from working with a lawyer in High School.
I've been there almost 3 years and have never been written up before. Plus my extern ship starts in roughly 2 months and after that i should have a nice job with the weekends off to which i can leave the place entirely.
I have problems with their morals and ethics. I find them highly out of wack so to speak. |
