Has anyone ever played dark cloud? It's an awesome game in my opinion. Played it probably 5 times now. _________________ Every breath you take brings you one step closer to death, so why think on the negative side. |

Dark Cloud is a PS2 game. Two, actually.

Common elements is that they're single character action/adventure/RPG, a "Georama" system so you can customize the appearance of towns, randomly generated dungeons, and a complicated weapon customization/synthesis system.

The first Dark Cloud was an early (if not launch) PS2 title, and it shows its age. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Aaaactually, I think I played a demo of that game when I had a PS2. When you said rearranging towns and all... It had flashy graphics, if I recall. _________________ |

First. Even though it's old, it's still incredibly from time to time. _________________ Every breath you take brings you one step closer to death, so why think on the negative side. |

I think dark cloud 1 WAS the launch title, it came out really really early. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I played the first one but I haven't finished it yet, though my sister has. And I haven't found the second one at a store for a LONG time. Isn't that one with different people though? _________________ ~_~_~_~

The two Dark Clouds are completely different settings/stories and characters, yes.

What's the point of them being about different people but the same game otherwise? That seems kind of stupid to me... _________________ ~_~_~_~

Who said that a sequel had to feature the same setting and characters as the original? Again, compare the Final Fantasy series.

So first, the similarities between the two Dark Clouds:

- Action/RPG

- Randomly generated dungeons

- Georama system

- Atlamillia

- Rare candies (items to increase HP/Defense scattered as prizes throughout each Georama)

- Weapon HP (wears down with use)

- Comprehensive weapon sysnthesis/evolution system

- Similar monster types in both games

- Fishing sidequest/minigame

- Somebody/thing named Steve (DC1, a talking sword; DC2, the Ridepod)

- Moon People (bunnies in hooded cloaks)

Now for the differences, of course there are many:

- Setting and narrative, obviously

- DC2's cel-shaded art style, better overall musical score, voiced cutscenes

- DC1 had six protagonists each wielding one weapon. DC2 has two protagonists, both are dual-wielding; Max (wrench/pistol) and Monica (sword/armband)

- Dungeon floor layouts are MUCH more varied and interesting

- DC2's "Guard" function can be used without a lock-on, is much more effective in general

- DC2, floors with seals (e.g. one character only, or no healing) become normal floors after defeating all enemies

- No stupid "Thirst" meter in DC2 (became a status ailment instead, blocked all healing until cured)

- Max's Ridepod, Monica's Monster Transformation abilities

- Max's photography/invention system

- New and improved minigames (Spheda, fishing contest, fish racing)

- DC2's Georama isn't tile-based like DC1 was

- In DC1, any weapon that broke down was Lost Forever. In DC2, it remains in your inventory, unusable 'til you fix it.

The list goes on. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Breath life into a dead story.

Honestly, I would be ok if every new entry in a series was a new cast. |

I think it would be confusing for the second one to have the same cast. It would just be the same thing all over again, what's the point? _________________ Every breath you take brings you one step closer to death, so why think on the negative side. |
