What are some of the things you hate about fanfiction? The fangirls? The mary-sues? The unoriginal story-lines? The bad lemons? The plot-bunnies that sneak upon you at two in the morning, while you were working on your five fics that your reviewers have been breathing down your neck to update?
Bitch about them here. Because you know you want to. |

I really could get passed all of the generic characters, plotlines etc., but what I really hate is crappy writing. I mean like, crappy writing in general. Words are misspelled, typoes are abundant, they make mistakes "lik ethis" and their grammar is horrible. That I can't stand. I'm not picky about the other stuff, but if people write like that, I wish their computer would crash and corrupt all of his/her files so she can't share her "story" with anyone else.
But that's just in my opinion. |

when people have nothing insteresting to keep the person reading, even though the idea is attention-catching.
gotta have that little bit of suspense and foreshadowing to keep the person wanting to read.
and comment whoring too. annoying as f**k.
or when the author randomly pops in wiht something stupid and compltely irrelvant, like:
he reached for a can of Mountain Dew (sorry, i had do put that, I LOVE MOUNTAIN DEW).
or something of the sort.
<_< just ignore me... |

Something that pisses me off all the time in fanfiction, and I see it a lot in lemon fics, is when the heroine gets r@ped, and falls in love with her r@pist. What the f**k is that?! That's just sick, and wrong. It makes me ill just thinking about something like that. If one of my characters every got r@ped, then she would found the guy, cut off his balls and fed them to the pigs.
But hey, that's just me. |

rape can be a good plot tool for when you want the herione (or hero, in case of yaoi) to go running back to the seme they should be with for protection.
the best anime to write those kind of fics with has to be Yami No Matsuei. i've read a couple good ones like that already... |

Yep, nothing like a good, angsty plot.
That's another thing I hate: dull plots. Where the characters do nothing, and everything turns out happy and shiney at the end. Blah, boring. Let the characters feel pain, let the characters be thrown into hell, let the characters almost topple over the edge, and then you can sucker me in for a happy ending. As long as it's well deserved. |

i like giving charact4ers odd fears or fetishes, it makes them seem more human. no one is perfect. |

OH! I just remember something else I hated: reviewers who act stupid. It's cute the first couple of times, but please, give me some details I can work with! And not only that, but I hate it when people don't review! Espicially if there's a vote involved. God, all it takes is for somebody to click the little review box and tell me what you think. Is that so hard to ask, hm?
I got over a hundred views on one of my fics at MM.org, and I have no reviews. Meanwhile, there's a self-insertion that has over fifty. FIFTY! *Screams* |

Mary Sues scare me.
I hate it when the author doesn't put spaces between paragraphs. It's fine when you're reading no spaces on paper, but it's a lot more confusing when there's no spaces on the computer screen.
Bad lemons are almost, if not more, scary then Mary Sues.
Can't stand plain old bad writing.
It bothers me when authors change the origonal pairings, even if they're plausable. They just give me bad mental images... the worse the pairing, the worse the image. >.<
Fics written just to have fluff between characters annoy me too. Gimme some plot, darnit!
Songfics are cool, until the characters actually start singing the songs... then it gets disturbing....
And let's not get started on OOC-ness.... <_< _________________ 222.

I agree with Papercut Dragon about the spacing -- if a story is simply one long paragraph, I could care less if you write like Mark Twain! I ain't readin' it!
The biggest bother to me, though, is probably poor sentance structure when the character talks. I've seen many authors who write the details of a story beautifully, but the second a character opens his or her mouth, cardboard comes out. They can go on and on about the dust on the crates and the cracks in the walls from an earthquake and the way you can hear the rats skittering across the damp concrete floor, and then... "It is cold."
That is a definate "WTF?" moment for me, and I may ditch the story right there.
Another thing that bothers me (and thank goodness I don't hear it very often) is when someone says, "I liked it, but your characterization of [insert name here] was terrible!" Yeah. While I may just be pulling a John Byrne sometimes with my characters, I do try to get their overall personality down. I write a lot of comic book fanfiction, and we all know comic book nerds are a rabid bunch. I tend to stick to the more obscure characters (my favorites are the first Human Torch from Marvel and the Silver Age Hawks from DC, though I do dabble in even more obscure ones) so I don't hear it often about them, but when I do, I want to scream. They are comic book characters who are revamped and changed and messed with every time a new writer takes over their book. I cannot see how someone could come and sit and tell me I gave them improper characterization! As for the Torch, he's been screwed with more often than Lorrie Foreman! I think, no matter how I made him out to be in a fic, it would still be better than what the afore-mentioned John Byrne did to him. And even so, if I hear one person tell me that "Torch would NEVER do that!", I swear, heads will roll.

Heh comic book characters do get revamped quite a bit. But just look at how messed up Marvel made it's characters in the Mangaverse series. While very pretty artistically the stories and the way they pertrayed the characters was almost painful. They made the Torch a girl, Spiderman a ninja, and Hulk fifity feet tall among other things that proceeded to get more and more confusing.
Now what I hate about fanfiction... self insertions where the author gets one of the characters to fall in love with them... especially when and if it eventually turns lemon... those stories just make me cringe.
I used to write a ton of fanfiction myself but I've pretty much stopped and moven on to original stuff. While writing fanfiction is fun it won't get me anywhere in life ya know... which is another thing I guess I hate about it... it is essentially useless in the real world. You can't do anything with it even if you are good because you're writing about something that's already been licsensed or whatever. _________________

Yeah...I only write fanfiction for practice, since I need help with plot and putting the events in a seqence that makes sense.
I hate it when author's don't put at least the littlest twist on fanfiction characters. Just a teeny, itty-bitty little one. A bit of OOC-ness is needed, or else the character will just stay the same, there will be no development, and the story is going to suck if things don't change. |

i hate it when authors make the characters completely OOC for no reason.
it's ok in parody or comedy fics, but not in more serious ones. |

Hm-mm
I hate it when Sess/Kag fics start with Inuyasha being dragged to hell by Kikyou. Almost every single one has that in it, and it's redundant. One of these days, I'm gonna write a fic, and it's gonna start like this:
"What if Inuyasha had been dragged into hell by Kikyou? What if Kagome did not run to Kouga, to Sesshoumaru, to her friends? What if Kagome did not run away? What if she...went after him?"

Naraku makes Shippo hallucinate, thinking that all the Inuyasha cast are the demon's that killed his family. Shippo goes nuts, kills eveybody, and just after he slaughters Kagome, Naraku releases the spell and Shippo commits suicide.
