Trust me on this, Chris. Chrono Cross is the better game. I know. I have Kingdom Hearts. It's a load of s**t.

Depends on what you are into. I tried to like KH but the whole Disney (Boo!) + Final Fantasy (YEAH!) = aggravation in my book. It's a better than average game, but I just didn't like the whole concept of it (Imagine Squall and Cloud and anyother bad-ass having a serious conversation with an antropomorphic duck and dog and you'll understand my trepidation). The music and voice acting are excellent but the combat can be pretty spastic (but fun).
Chrono Cross is no where near as good as Chrono Trigger but it is still a servicable RPG. Yasunori Mitsuda's music is excellent as usual and the graphics, while suffering from some odd artisitic design, are also good. The gameplay is what turned me off for good though. The battle system is terribly complicated in comparison to Chrono Trigger's simple but deep combat mechanics.

Chrono Cross uses a turn-based battle system. Kingdom Hearts uses a real-time, action-based battle system. The action is very fast-paced too. There aren't any numbers onscreen either -- your HP/MP are represented by meters, and unless you have the "Scan" ability equipped, you don't even know how much damage you inflicted. You launch spells or use items through a menu interface using the right analog stick, so you can still move around and dodge attacks while selecting what tactic to use. Your sidekicks are competent fighters and do their own support/healing automatically, even though they tend to use up all their items quickly. Like Chrono Cross's item system ("consumable" elements), you have to equip any potions/etc. you think you might need before you actually go into battle, and unlike any other RPG, healing items are actually powerful. Even at Lv.99 with maxed-out HP, a Potion will still heal you for about 1/4 of your maximum HP, and a Hi-Potion will heal you even more.
Sure, the Disney influence is kinda . . . odd, but keep in mind that most of the enemies you fight aren't even Disney foes. They're original creations called "Heartless" that tie in to the plot.
Of course, you do have showdowns with some classic Disney villains, my favorite being Maleficent as she's the lead villain (and dragon battles are ALWAYS cool). There's also a climactic one-on-one battle against Riku in Hollow Bastion that's not to be missed -- turn-based combat systems can never get a one-on-one battle to "feel" right.
There are some optional, super-tough bosses that become available near the end of the game, which (like most optional superbosses) are even tougher than the game's final boss. One of them is even a famous Final Fantasy villain who challenges you in a one-on-one fight . . . _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Square-Enix needs to learn something. Final Fantasy and Disney do NOT mix. That is why the game is stupid. Chrono Cross is the better buy. |

I think that you should decide yourself. People have lots of opinions but that is what they think. You should find out what you like just as a person. I thought Kingdom Hearts was going to be great for me from the begining, but that's just me ^_^ _________________ "My heart burns for you like fire"

That's opinion, NOT fact. I wager you simply aren't a fan of real-time action-based combat to begin with.
Screw the plot and toss out the characters, the gameplay underlying every battle is pretty solid. Kingdom Heart has as solid of a real-time battle system as Chrono Cross has a solid turn-based system.
Bottom line is that either system is NOT inherently better than the other. They are inherently different, and just like our opinions, their different systems appeal to different types of gamers. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Either way my opinion is Kingdom Hearts all it would need is a bit of tweaking. _________________ I'm a zombie. Yarg.

Good choice but the poll is Chrono or Kingdom H. Also get a new avatar. That ones wrong and you may not know it but there are also younger users on this site. _________________ I'm a zombie. Yarg.

There are younger users on this site? I had no idea... But we're all going to be failing around stage live, stripped to our bridges with cocaine filtered all over our chest.
