I don't really have a very good idea of what it stands for, but from what I can gather from thanksgiving specials in tv shows it has something to do with indians giving food to colonists or something, and eating turkey.

So this picture should be posted.

Oh that's right... Thanksgiving is an American holiday, isn't it? Duh.

That's basically it. The Pilgrims were thankful that someone showed them how to hunt and gather food when winter was coming near. Now we just all pig out on turkey and cranberry sauce while telling everyone else what we're thankful for in life. I'm watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade right now. Lot of balloons and floats. Yep.

I was watching it too. On Saturday I'm going to be in a stupid celebrate the seasons parade and I have to be downtown at 6:15 am . Sad My school's marching band is in the parade. We suck at marching parade formation; I hope we do okay. Laughing

Actually, the true story of thanksgiving is *not* the one you people are taught in grade school. Let me begin...

The first year the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, they were greeted and assisted by the local natives. However, as winter set in, the Pilgrims realized that they were in no condition to survive the cold due to the fact that they had next to no food supplies. Luckily, some of them happened upon the natives hidden food stores, and promptly looted it.

Now, this pissed the natives off, and they immediately set about raiding the villages in attempts to gain back their stolen food. After a few skirmishes, the Pilgrims decided to call a meeting with the local tribe to try to work out their differences; After all, they were "friends". And because of this friendship, it is only natural that all who enter the meeting house leave their weapons at the door. The natives obliged, and the Pilgrims locked them inside and then cut their heads off. The heads were then put on stakes as a warning to any native who should dare try to get back the food the Pilgrims stole from them.

In the years to come, the Pilgrims began viewing the natives as little less than vermin. So, they would send out expeditions, kill off all natives they came across, then when they returned the whole town would have a marvelous feast to celebrate. And that is the origins of thanksgiving.

So the next time you sit down in front of the turkey, be sure to give thanks that our forefathers had enough foresight to kill of an entire people and steal their food. Happy holidays.

*was 400 miles away for the past 4 days, and far from an internet connection*

Thanksgiving sucks. I hate turkey. And football. -_-

I made spaghetti at noon, a tv dinner at 7, and spent most of the day doing calc work. Happy thanks-fuckin'-giving to me.

Stupid holiday.

I'm actually one of the few Dutch people who understands the rules at football, loves to watch football, and always watches the superbowl.
