My Antonia. The Good Earth. The Great Gatsby. Animal Farm. The Pigman.

All really bad or just plain boring. Also all school assignments, I'm sure there's more that I've blocked out of my memory, but these were some of the worst.

Don't think I've ever hated a book that I've picked out for myself or that was recommended my my dad, which is how I've picked a good number of my books.

Maybe schools should have students and parents help choose school book assignments. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone reading a high school book assignment and actually enjoying it.

I love Narnia! How could you not like Narnia unless you have the attention span of a goldfish?!

1984. You know, the book with 'big brother' in it. I really hated that book - problem was, we did our GCSE in English Literature on it!!!

Yeah...most school books really suck. Pretty much everything I've read in the last 4 years for school has involved explicit language, violence, and/or sex. And not the fun kind....lessee...the most recent was Invisible Man, by Ellison. That was awful. Currently, I'm TRYING to get through Crime and Punishment, but I'm not sure that's gonna happen. Color Purple....Catcher in the Rye....bleh. It hurts just to think about them.

The first book I actually read all by myself. It was called "One Is The Sun" or something, I HATED it and I still do, GAH! Those words still ring through my head till this day:

"One, one is the sun
Two, two are my shoes"

AAAAAUGH, I'm so sorry but I can't continue or I'll go NUTS!!

Bridge to Teribitha. My grade 6 teacher read it to the class and I absolutely hated it. I know it's a Newbery winner and all but I just though it was boring and stupid.

And, I love the Narnia books and Animal Farm. Both of them I read on my own, and not for a school assignment. Maybe that has something to do with it. Reading something you like for school kind of takes away the fun in it.

That is very true. I know my dad has talked about re-reading books he'd read for school years later and likeing them much more. This year I had to read Bram Stoker's Dracula and Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and I probably would not like them as much if that was the first exposure I'd had to them. Fortunately I'd already read and liked both books. ^_^ But, it wasn't as fun to talk about them in class as I'd anticipated. School can ruin the best books.

I hate Anne Rice's books. I hate Harry Potter- too simplistic compared to Patrick O'brian.

I can't believe someone hates my Poor F. Scott Fitzgerald =( *hugs The Great Gatsby*

Lord of the Rings takes a little bit to get into, but the Silmarillion (prequel) is the best book ever.

The Tale of Genji- the writing style is weird.

The It- gave me nightmares :/

Was your first experiance with it in school? Cause studying a book in school can ruin even the best books. Really, I can't think of anything I read on my own and hated, except for the time I tried to read War and Peace. I plead temporary insanity. That thing is dull.

Personally, I can't believe you hate Anne Rice! Laughing
