I find it very easy to not like her "singing". What's difficult is making it through an entire music video of theirs without wanting to slit your wrists. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

she's really whiny... and their music is unoriginal, just like all these other rock star wannabes. i guess the only difference is they have a female singer, but that doesn't automatically make you special. sooo many chick bands that are sooo much better. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

Yeah,I'd have to say that Evanescence is a pretty good band, alot of their songs are deep from mind and thought...must remeber though,Ben Moody is the master behind the Lyrics, that's what's best about them... |

Lacuna Coil.
'Sides, that Amy chick has a big attitude problem. Takes herself way too seriously. Sucks live, anyway. Applaud their production team for her talent, not her. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Oh for the love of God, they're not "deep". Dark imagery and metaphors are no deeper than songs about fluffy bunnies and rainbows if they're presented in the same shallow manner. Something being "dark" is not the same as "deep". Deep means there's some kind of expression and commentary on an either abstract or complex thing/situation/emotion/whatever, and it's done in a unique and original way.
These are not "deep".
"These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase"
Do you know how many songs there are about emotional scars? And do you know how many of them approached them in a better way than this? Using the image of lingering injury has been done to death, and it's near impossible to beat that dead horse anymore.
"You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me"
 And this is called excessive bad poetry. Don't mistake teen angst for "deep".
All of This
When it comes down to it, all their lyrics are a very basic principle that's been written and sang for decades. Dressing it up with some flowery poetry and dark images does NOT make it new or remotely deep. They're saying NOTHING original about these topics and are expressing NO new opinions. For something to be deep, it has to show original thought, a new way of looking at things. Since when is describing emotional scars as injuries that won't heal unique? It's not! It's very hard for something to be "deep" on description alone. Adjectives and fancy metaphors just make it sound pretentious and fake. It's the expression of new ideas or comparisons or viewpoints that make something deep. That's why a happy song can just as easily be "deep" as some brooding, miserable one.
"Life sucks" is not deep. That's why Linkin Park and all those nu metal crapfests aren't "deep". A band doesn't have to be deep to be good or for someone to like them, far from it, but don't mistake whiny teen angst for something amazing and special. You like 'em, great, but they're not some brilliant band to be worshipped for their barely mediocre lyrics.

Amy Lee is an angsty teen wannabe beggin to be shot, and her little performace with Seether "I'm broken...." is utter crap. I've said it before, I don't want to hear how much your life sucks, I want to hear how you can make it fuckin' kick ass. We all know life is hard(Shut up Chester, Amy, Billy), so fuckin' deal with it.
If the album repeats itself over an dover, what's the point? Amy Lee can't sing live. Wonder why? She cheats and uses vocal enhancing equipment. I can go onstage, mumble about my life(who honestly cares?), and get off. I'd rather talk about the drug runners in my school, the whoring, and the gang wars. You know, REALITY.
Angst died when Cobain blew his brains out. It should have, anyway. He was the one guy who used creative imagery(with shit guitar, but who cares?) and it rarely repeated itself...
LP
Evanescence
Good Charlotte
They will NEVER be deep, and dark imagery doesn't make it deep. Honestly...
"Look my hands they bleed
I've given what I had
For you and all I love
And my pain will mark me as
Who I never was
Crucified for my cause"
Oh so very deep...there's no point. It's easy to come up with that "dark" imagery crap. There ARE genuine dark lyrics, but those bands are pretty much gone(or forgotten).
Any song that lists the words "my" and "life" together, side by side, in the same sentance, tend to be angsty songs made for MONEY and nothing else. Personal salvation? I don't think so, they have the girlfriend with the million dollar 35DD boob job. They have Tony Montana's car. They have million dollar homes and they SMILE everywhere except onstage. I love it how the interviewers always say "On the outside, he seems an ordinary man, but on the inside, there's so much more..."
I can think like an angsty teen. Been there, done that, ain't goin' back.
Lyrics written by someone else, and the person singing them adopts the lyrics image.... Not an issue with bands that deal with the former sex, drugs, booze, and all that is rock.. No, but now if it deals with EMOTIONS, we assume the person singing is feeling those lyrics, which they CAN'T if they didn't write them.
It's stupid. It's weird. It's lying to the people who think you relate you them.
And when is pain NOT real? I saw those lyrics... When did she fake it? Can she not take life? Hope she kills herself. I really do.
And I hope she does it while she's cutting, because it would make me laugh so damn hard to know she died trying to be cool. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Plus they're a Jesus band in denial, 'cause being a Jesus band won't get you onto TRL (unless you want to be a complete joke like Stryper. Blech)
EDIT: I think "Billy" is the eye candy guitarist of Good Charlotte. The singer is Benji or Bobby or Billy Bob or Joey or Slappy or someone else like that. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Yeah, Evanescense will never be better than Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, or AC/DC. You don't want to accept that fact? Fine by me, but Evanescence is nu-metal crap begging to be burned.

Nine Inch Nails used computers programmed by Trent Reznor before they had a full band. Their guitarist made the right choice, although he was a shit guitarist to begin with.
I DON'T CARE FOR EVANESCENCE. I think I said that already. It's the fuckin' lyrics. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Amy can't sing in live performances. They use vocal enhancing software for studio recordings. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

 Please don't tell me you're arguing the use of vocal enhancing software. If you are....I laugh and laugh. It's no secret. It's not a dark industry mystery that's kept in the shadows, and the reason for that is simple. The same technique that is used to give someone "amazing" talent is used to mix and balance the tracks. It's not a separate process, they merely adjust and level out the vocal track while mixing it appropriately with the rest of the music. If you listen to Evanescence records, they're extremely heavily produced. It's easy to hear if you know what you're listening for. There's no flaws. It's been smoothed and perfected digitally to that glossy finish that is impossible to achieve live. The technology is good enough to still sound relatively "normal", but her voice live is nowhere near the power or range she has on those records. If you can't sing something live, you have no business recording it. The same goes for artists who have to do 50 takes and piece a song together word by word for a remotely decent sound to even start the digital enhancing (*ahem* Ashlee Simpson).
It's a common trick and almost all artists use it on some level to get a decently realistic sound on their records, but her voice is taken to the point it's not her anymore. Many many pop princesses are the same way. Pop music in general. That voice on the records is not hers, and the fact she gets so much praise for supposed talent is ridiculous. The overproduction is so blatantly obvious. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Y'all may hate Evanescence, and Amy Lee, but they're still much more popular than you'll ever be, and will always have more money than you.
Can't say I like them, but if I don't like a band or anyone in particular, I don't go around whining how I hate them, and how they suck all friggin day. ;)
... btw, Lacuna Coil? Over-rated. Heard of them, heard 'em, not much different from Brittney Spears. |

1. Where's the point? I could have told you that. I might be more popular than them someday, you never know.
2. I don't, and I sure hope you don't live nearby me because you would know all day I talk about:
Girls
School
Jokes
Games
Girls
Rifle team
Orienteering team
Girls
Internet and the assholes on it
Girls
Crazy stuff I do I'll never show you
Drug distribution(don't do it, but I'm learning the deal with it all)
Girls
Girls....
Music only comes up in Jazz band and on here. Granted, it could tone down, but have you seen the high-larious reactions to the fangirls? It's worth the hurt, it truly is.
Besides, it looks like we switched to the faults in the music industry. Face it, some of us have no lives.
As a proud member of a run down band, I am pleased to inform you that I have no life.

You just won for millionth use of the "u couldn't do better!!!! " post.
Y'all may hate Evanescence, and Amy Lee, but they're still much more popular than you'll ever be, and will always have more money than you.
And your point is...? That makes no sense. Just because someone has money or fame, they're above criticism? They're automatically god-like because a few million idiots bought their record? News to me. And are you a fortune teller, since you seem to have seen my future? For all you know I'll be the next Robert Plant. The jealousy card is overrated. Don't play it.
Can't say I like them, but if I don't like a band or anyone in particular, I don't go around whining how I hate them, and how they suck all friggin day.
And that's your choice. Kindly step away from the keyboard and let us continue with our choice. Though I will explain why negative posts last longer than positive.
typical positive thread:
"OMG Evanescence are so coo!"
"I know! I luv them!"
"Kool! Me 2! What's ur favrite song?!"
"*insert top radio single*"
"ME 2!!!!!"
Then it dies after a page or two of verbal masturbation.
Average "negative" thread:
"I don't like *insert most trendy MTV bands*. *insert two or three valid reasons for them not being good*"
"I disagree, in *insert song title* there is a great guitar solo, and *insert guitar player's name* has a solo album that features his skills apart from the band's work. Have you heard *insert obscure song title*"
"Yes, the vocal track is over produced, and the bassist is weak. One note bass lines in every song."
"Yeah, the bass player isn't the best, but..."
And so on. There's reasons. There's opinions. There's something worthwhile other than "omg I luv dem!!!!!!!!!one" Get it?
... btw, Lacuna Coil? Over-rated. Heard of them, heard 'em, not much different from Brittney Spears.
I don't particularly care for them, but they're hardly Britney Spears, and they're loads better than Evanescence. But this topic is not about them, so I won't even bother. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

We haven't pointed out every fault. Only the ones that are detrimental to a band. If we were to point out every fault, well, there's just not time in a day for that. This isn't about "flaming" bands, either. All the criticism has a reason, not just "omg they r teh suxx0rz" (which is the negative equivalent to most of the positive threads, but meh).
Doesn't matter your opinion long as you can back it up, all it comes down to. I hate having to repeat myself, but no one cares what anyone else likes. Listen to whatever you want in your own home, but "I like them" doesn't support talent. No one's saying people can't like them, obviously somebody does, but if one can't give a real reason for them to be "so talented" or "the best band ever" n' all that, people just shouldn't bring it up. 'Cause ain't no way people here won't contradict it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

..did I hit a nerve?
And your point is...?
My point is, no matter what kind of whining and pissing and moaning you do, the point is, they MADE it, you didn't (or haven't....yet... who knows... who cares). What matters is, they actually made something of themselves.
That makes no sense. Just because someone has money or fame, they're above criticism? They're automatically god-like because a few million idiots bought their record? News to me.
Of couse it doesn't make any sense since you don't want to, or CAN'T make sense of it. No one is above any crticism, however, my point is if you can't even write, play, or sell your music to anyone other than your mom, your criticism is worth about as much as the toilet paper these guys wipe on their asses after eating Mexican.
By the way, you call people who bought their album "idiots" What a shock it must be if you suddenly see your Mom or brother, or sister actually enjoying listening to the album.
And are you a fortune teller, since you seem to have seen my future? For all you know I'll be the next Robert Plant.
Nope.
The jealousy card is overrated. Don't play it.
I'm playing it, because you ARE. If you really didn't care for what Evanescence, or anyone for that matter, made of themselves, you wouldn't be so damned bitter in your replies.
And that's your choice. Kindly step away from the keyboard and let us continue with our choice. Though I will explain why negative posts last longer than positive.
Awww... let me just watch idly by and watch you bash what people, save for you, actually ENJOY?
Tisk tisk....

To yes, to me no, they're Britney all the way to the bone. They're loads better than Evanescence to you, to me, they're teepee compared to Wierd Al Yankovic.
