Signatures

I know we all love our signatures and they're a way for you to express yourselves. But a number of people over the past few months are beginning to complain about them.

If you have a banner to add to them or link that is fine. But i'd like to ask people to try and reframe from tagging things onto theirs that are or are close enough to the size of a drawing you'd upload to the main site.

Sure, you might like linkin park, or InuYasha, but that doesn't mean you have to put a 400 x 500 pixel picture, banner or what not on your signature for anyone to know that.

After awhile it becomes rather boring and right out annoying. Not to mention it can create problems with the moderators trying to look after the forum and monitor the posts as they go along the boards in the forums, or are trying to find a certain post. They can make the job twice as long as needed with all the scrolling needed if your trying to find something and all you see are banners and pictures with very little actual conversation.

I am not protesting to the small bits and bobs so to speak that OS handed out as a small but funny little awards they did awhile back for the winners to put in their sigs. Those are fine and perfectly reasonable, fun to read and good for a laugh. It are the larger images that create more problems.

[u]As well[/u] as the lyrics to your favorite songs or paragraphs from a fanfic you've decided you liked. They simply go over board and are more of a problem than fun to look at.

Please try and keep this in mind for future reference or it could become a matter of adding new rules against such things. Thank you.

Yes, the Sig sizes are getting worse and worse lately.

The forums rules (not that anybody reads them) DO have a sig size guideline in them.

The rules have been displayed there for a long time. If people don't want to follow them its up to the mods to enforce them.

yes... i hate super big sigs... there anoying!!!!!!!!!!!! and you know what else? they slow down people's computers......................

That's because of the bandwidth required to transmit them. Images are the #1 culprit of this.

Take my signature for example. Large as it may appear, it's only about 12kb of bandwidth (10kb for the smiley, 2kb for the text). Compare that to a 640x480 image-sig, which requires an average of about 80kb bandwidth -- virtually all of which is spent on the image.

There's also that rule about "thou shalt not posess a signature larger than thy average post"....

Bandwidth isn't really a big problem for FAC anymore (Tho it is maxing out at over 5megabit during busy hours). Its more a case of it wasting screen space and being annoying to have to scroll past huge ones.

I don't mind for example, yours stratadrake, but yours is text, it's played out all the way across the screen like a post would be in a thread, instead of like say, full on lyrics to a song. It's original, it's not taking up a lot of space.

Hell, if you ask me, we're being pretty nice about it. It's just the large images and song lyrics for the msot part really. And the huge ass writing people put in them that is literally an inch bich on my page in size for one freakin line.

It's starting to piss me off. I'm going to start tagging people's titles if i have to with something smart Rolling eyes

As well as deleting there sigs. Hell, i'll delete them in whole if i have to keep going back and taking the images out.

Is mine too large? I tried to cut down on some of the text I was typing on it so I could put the JTHM pic on it, that way to balance it out. I'd rather not have to go through the messy e-mail from Lasher that beats me into a pulp because she had to edit my siggy.

Yours is fine now Dragon. And don't worry, your not the only one that got beaten to a pulp. Razz

Anime_Chick did also for hers. She scaled it down to the size of a banner, which really, is the only size image that should be in anyone's signature. No larger than a banner i say. Otherwise it just becomes an annoyance and troublesome. But yes, yours is better now Smile

Nope, yours is fine. I won't get everyone as i don't go everywhere. But let's put it this way, if it's to big, i'll go in and take it out myself or leave a message on your sig saying it's to big and remove it or dice it in half Razz

Yeah, i use to belong to an old forum that has them. it's larger though, and more closely monitored. And more strict to people mouthing off and such. All sorts. I liked that place though. Good fun, but never a trouble. And if anyone started it, they got their asses kicked Laughing

Good laughs. Not sure FAC is the place for it.

Nope, yours is fine as well. I'd say no bigger than yours for example though. It could be wider perhaps but no longer than yours (image size) Very nice Smile
