Anyone interested in a streaming radio station for Fanart Central?
If so, anyone interested in hosting shows on it or anything?
I can stream 379 anime OSTs (about 9000 songs) but I'd also like to have like radio shows and stuff. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Cool idea, but anime music freaks me out with the high pitched voices and stuff I'm sure there's a lot of people who might like it though.
An idea for a radio show: maybe some japanese lessons? I know there are a lot of people on FAC who would like to know how to say a thing or two in japanese. |

I think that sounds like an awesome idea. Personally I'm not too sure about shows, but amine OSTs would be really cool. |

There is server software available for streaming audio and pc software (like a winamp plugin) that can be used to send music to it, or just whatever from a mic.
Raymei, if you are asking because you are interested for your site, its not going to happen with 9-95.com, you need a dedicated server an a lot of bandwidth.
Based on what it takes to setup and run, its probebly not going to happen due to very little interest from. Maybe i'll find more interest in the next newsletter. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

I agree with Lexar. There could be some Japanese lessons. Maybe you could do a weekly or monthly show that tells about current news and updates. And instead of putting up who the Artists of the Month are you could tell it over the radio waves.
That way you can help to free up some data for more useage. _________________

For hosting a show? I dont know yet. Time to do it, interest, ability to come up with enough stuff to talk about. Or at least MP3's to serve.
and a fast enough and reliable enough connection to stream audio to FAC's server (any broadband connection should do it. a 56k may in poor quality, but not if you are surfing at the same time) _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

ooh ^^ intriguing.
I've got TONS of anime OSTs and TONS of J-rock/Pop/etc ^^ so I could do either one.
Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to do it until I moved out T.T;;;; not that my connection here isn't good or anything, there's just always someone on the computer.
^^;; so if you're not planning on doing it for a couple months, sounds like fun
(If I can get Jenni in on it we could do some discussions in between music sets)
Where'd this idea come from anyway?
Sounds really cool ^^ |

Came across an anime radio station (Kawaii Radio) in my travels on the web and thought maybe FAC should have one. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

cool ^^
hopefully if we can get it going it'd be better than "Japan-a Radio"
it's a station in La or something o.o they usually play really old stuff (same stuff over and over)
Their discussions aren't really enthralling either, so I stopped listening to them. meh.
Kawaii radio eh? I'll have to check that out |

I'm not very good at Japanese yet, but I'd be more than willing to do a show using my Elvish Lessons XD I'll have so much free time next semester it makes me sick :/
OO! And radio plays. We would have to have one sometime. H G Wells style. It could feature something someone on FAC has written or just a popular play. Or have a small block to read people's poetry? I dunno, just shooting out ideas. That would be nice, since no one reads anyone's writing on here, it seems.
And there could be a short show just about news in general-- or an editorialized version via Lexar (not sure how well that would go )
Various other things- there could be movie reviews, music reviews, anythign you can put in a newspaper, really. I'm obviously not as interested in the music factor, but I'm not much into anime music, either. I think having music on there might start some arguments, really >.> I'd be upset if Evanescence came on, and their fans would be upset if Blind Guardian came on, etc... And people would come and complain on the baord about how their style of music (i.e. whiney goth alert) never got played.
As an international community, though, I think teaching languages is a great idea, especially. I know I'm a nerd... but I'd listen |

Ooh, reviews sound cool ^^ I do online comic reviews on my site, it'd be cool to do movie/music/tv shows and stuff on radio.
I think Denis was looking at playing anime/Japanese or other international selections o.o he might get sued for playing stuff like Evanescene.
I'd like to help out in anyway ^^ (whether writing stuff, picking out music selections or whatever)
it sounds like fun! |

You know if it wasn't anime, I'd be willin'.
I'm being slow, but if you're using anime songs, there are copyrights. How do we get around those? Just say you're a licensced station?
Yeah, I'm just slow around the "internet" station. If it's the same as a regular, I understand.
It'd be cool if you could get some rock on there.... Not ust Jrock, but hard rock and mellow rock. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

And so the music battle begins! (No offense, fela, I'm all with you on that)
I also don't understand this business on the internet stations, or copyright laws in other countries, etc, so I'll just have to believe whatever you guys tell me on that. As for the anime music, though, yeah... like I said- not very interested- neat idea, though ;)
(as a side note, how does LaunchCast work with the copyrights O.o does anybody know?) |

I think that's something that should be looked into right away before plans for playing music go further

You can't play music without purchasing the rights to do so. If you look around Launch, they only play what they've purchased the rights for (and there are conditions, such as free people only get so many skips per month and have to listen for 30 seconds before pausing, paid members get more skips and quality 'cause they help pay for the rights).
The thing with anime, as Denis has pointed out before, is the Japanese are extremely relaxed about copyright. All those fan comics (D-whatever) are violations of trademark laws, but no one sues them because it's publicity. America, especially now, is far more strict about it. So no American music, unless Denis had the funds to purchase the right to play them.
So that more or less takes care of the music battle issue. There are a huuuuge number of violations floating around, but with FAC growing and with so many members, it wouldn't be unheard of for it to be reported or discovered. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C.
