I don't think there's been one for a long time. I don't even remember if the original one was started by the likes of Flea or someone who actually liked them. Either way, there isn't one now, so it's ok.
Anyone care to pick an actual topic to begin the discussion? _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I don't know, but I don't think anyone wants to read a full rant about anything and everything GC. It could take me hours to write! I'd have to cross reference, research, evaluate video footage...insanity!

well, there's a war in Iraq, punky fags like av. and GC are trying to take over the real meaning of music and outlaw anyone that tries to "be like them", and my dog just pissed on the damn carpet and is looking at me "oh, cleannnit up, you SOB!" _________________ <MARQUEE>

Well for the sake of a topic, let's see. How many albums do they have? I don't even know. Hell, I don't know how many people are even in the band. They a four piece or do they have two guitarists? There's the twins and the good lookin' one, that's all I know.
Ok, so, what could possibly make them such an overwhelming success? Come to think of it, they're not much of a success anymore. They've faded away just about as quickly as The Darkness or that "Your Body Is a Wonderland" kid. But that's not the point, 'cause I still see t-shirts and those stupid wristbands being worn. So what could possibly be the attraction to such a barely mediocre band...
They're not original. Nothing they're doing is new or different than any other complaining teen pop group. Aww life sucks for you Benji? Life's tough, get a fuckin' helmet, kiddo. Don't write me a song about it. If you hate being rich so much, give me your millions of dollars, and I'll try it out for awhile. And how many songs are there about suicide? Way too many for there to be room for some uninspired piece of garbage like whatever that one from last year was. Even KIX did it better than you, GC! KIX! Actually I like KIX, but that's not the point. "Don't Close Your Eyes" was interesting. Thought was put into it. There was excellent musicianship in the melody and lyrics and instrumentals. Not some angsty little ditty about how you shouldn't kill yourself. And frankly, if someone wants to off themselves, and hearing a GC song saves their life, the world would be better off without them. I'll pull the damn trigger for them in that case, because no little fifteen minute band with a crappy song should be your single reason for living.
So really, the only reason I can come up with is pure laziness. They're not talented musicians. They can barely manage power chords while jumping up and down. In fact, I think I read something about them learning to play shortly before they were signed. They sure sound like it. It seems teens today are just too lazy for anything other than some whiny band slapping them upside the head and saying "listen you little shit, don't kill yourself" Forget thinking and originality, hell they don't even have to be musicians anymore! Take a few mallrats, pierce their eyebrows, put some lame alice cooper-esque makeup on one of them, and tell them to jump around like they're having a seizure. We'll package it up nice and call it a band.
God help us all.
EDIT: Great, now I have Don't Close Your Eyes stuck in my head and have to go dig out a KIX album...
2nd EDIT: Signing off for the night and won't be back till afternoon pacific time, so... I won't get to respond in a timely manner. Any and all pro-GC responses had better be phrased in a thoughtful manner. "I luv them. They're cool" will be heartily laughed at. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

two.

I think there's like 5.

I hope your not complaining

Per gothic band? Count how many songs they have in all. There's your answer!
In fact, I think I read something about them learning to play shortly before they were signed.

Yeah, I read somethin like that online somewhere! So then it IS true.
God help us all.
Yes, please.
They have that damn song with this line "(blah bllah blah)....about celebrities who want symathy."
...but isn't that what they're scrathing at the door for??? Everytime I walk into a place like SamGoody's, every poster of theirs that I lay eyes on, they all look like black-painted bums. And that s**t billy does. It's like he's tryin to look like some goody toe-shoes CHICK! He's always trying to look innocent while covered in eyeliner and somehow it pulls me back and my brain screams "He....Must...DIE!"
....and I don't know why _________________ <MARQUEE>

Any time I see Billy I just think "why must you suck so much? I want to like you, and yet I can't". All looks, no talent. A pity. They could make up for it if any of them had talent, but they have no business being a signed band. A decent garage band maybe, but not a national act. Their lyrics blow, and none of them can play.
I blame Cobain for all this. Great artist himself, but he started the DIY Rock Star trend. Kids don't want to be Steve Tyler or Angus Young anymore. Larger than life with talent. Why bother when you can be a platinum pop act, no talent required? <_< And I suppose kids like them because they're "just like me. I like sooo totally relate to them". How? They have millions of dollars and are touring the country. They're nothing like you.
It's so stupid. And people who don't care about music will say so what, but for every GC, there's an amazing band that deserves to be making albums. They may not look like angsty mall rats, and they don't write bubblegum rock, and that's exactly why they deserve a deal. It's all pop. MTV was great in theory for about ten years, when it enhanced great bands that were already there. Let you see the show without actually going. Now MTV is everything if you want to be promoted. Sure, groups can release things on their own. TUFF/Stevie has their own label (RLS..."Record Labels Suck" ), and there's some smaller labels that still release older acts. Flashback, Liquor and Poker, and whatnot, but they don't sell more than a few thousand.
And GC are especially bad for their pseudo-punk image, but that's a whole other topic mostly covered in the other thread...
I wish to beat them with big metal bats. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Good Charlotte has three albums, Jissie.
Good Charlotte
The Young and the Hopeless
The Chronicles of Life and Death
And a live DVD, Live at Brixton Academy.
I believe there are 4 people total.
There are roughly 1,789,043 songs about suicide.
Before they began to play, Benji taught Billy his first chords. This is after seeing a Beastie Boys concert and being inspired.
I did some research last night and I was quite pleased with the results.
And how does a pop punk song save your life? Ok, 4 people who are famous can "relate" to you(it's crap), what about the 78,934 others who can and they're not famous, at least 5,603 of them professionals.
I wanna be the next Angus Young. I wanna be the next Jimmy Page. I wanna be the next Slash. I wanna be the next Hendrix. I wanna be the next John Shafer.
But, ok, pop bands whining about life. I can't compete with that. If I whined about my life.....
"My mom has one hand and only one leg
Man that sucks I hate a guy named Greg
I wanted a puppy but I got a radio instead
My cat is really fat this sucks I'm losing my head"
I could make that into a mockery song. "Lifestyles of Bitching and Pussies" _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Do it! And then record it all Weird Al style! How long could it possibly take to learn the song? Fifteen minutes? At most? _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

A lot of current acts suck in concert these days, and I'm a firm believer that it's because they're getting these record deals right after they've been playing together with barely any experience on the club/small venue circuit. If a band's been playing for years (either together or members in different previous groups), they know how to entertain a crowd. You have to. There's no way you'll draw people without having a great stage show, and if you don't draw people, you don't get paid (really you don't get paid anyway, but the owners tell ya you will ). But if a little garage band plays a handful of local gigs, sends off a tape, and gets a deal right away... unless they're some pretty amazing naturals, their stage show will suck ass. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. But the people who's stage show sucks ass, it's ok since teens and their main demographics will still buy their albums because it "reaches out to them." And with big record sales, that means companies (like Ecko, Nike, Billabong, Pepsi etc.) will make big dollar contracts with them. That's how the sh*tty bands make money. |

Yeah, Pepsi will make them endorse the product. Imagine Joel going like "Hey, after a hard day of whining, I need to cool off. I drink Pepsi Edge." _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

No no no, they have to sing it...like Britney Spears. Granted neither of them can sing, but you know what I mean. Teen girls don't want to hear them talk. It has to be carefully inserted to lyrics of anger and suicidal tendencies. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

i hav the young and the hopeless (stole it from a friend and made a copy for myself) and i hav the chonicles (sp?) of life and death (death version) and i luv em both! everything they talk bout is true. i mean, britney spears would never be able to live in the real world. she could prolly be a prostitute, but other than that, i cant see wat she could be. but i agree with all their songs. _________________ Worrying is like a rocking chair.
