Some people love to put everything into a genre. Sometimes this has to be done to maintain a certain order in the musical world, however its starts to get out of hand when there are arguments concerning specific bands being in certain genres. Whether they are or arent almost becomes a discredit. Do you agree or disagree, and what bands can you think of that fit in these categories? |

Any band fits into multiple genres. It's pretty much just the nature of genres, 'cause it applies to books too. A historical fiction book could also be a mystery or a romance, for example. As far as arguing whether or not a certain band fits into a specific category, the only time that's really an issue is if it's the broadest of them. Like rock, pop, blues, jazz, rap, r&b, soul, reggae, classical.
But then you still have blues rock, pop rock, all that.
Without specific criteria for what is what, it's pretty much a pointless argument. And the much more specific subgenres are even more ridiculous. "OMG Manson is not goth rock! He's industrial!" Who cares? All those terms are so vague to begin with. What the hell is "goth rock"? (don't answer, I could answer it myself, but it doesn't need an answer )
You can categorize them all you want, but it doesn't mean they'll fit neatly into one single genre. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
