Denis, What Do You Think?

To get rid of the advertisments, I would generously donate anywhere from $40 USD to $80 USD a month. And if you can get a few other members to donate something, would it be enough the rid us of those ads?

I remember when you announced the coming of the Google ads, I was a little new to the forums so I didn't know anybody here, so I never thought about donating. But I would love to help out with Fanart Central in this way.

[u]My Reasons[/u]: I work so much so I can't ask to be on the approval panel, or be any kind of site helper. BUT, since I work so much, I always have a lot of money to throw away (which is exactly what I always do). I'd love to donate, it would make me feel better to be apart of this site, and I know the rest of the members would agree to lose the ads.

If you don't think it neccessary to ask members to help, would it cost too much for just us two? I really don't know how much it is to keep this site running, so forgive me if I sound just crazy suggesting this.

You can email me to talk about this. Or let it continue on in this thread.

The reason I made a thread of this is because I want other members to see it and respond, who knows, maybe there are people out there just like me.

I have all sorts of debts and housekeeping pay to ..pay. I would, though, pay SOMETHING each month, on payday.. I'd have to recalculate my earnings though..

Nice of you to suggest such a thing, though.

Denis proposed an idea some months ago for people to subscribe to the site for as little as $5 a month and asked for suggestions of what kinds of things people would like to be given as a subscriber (NOT already existing features being taken away and only available to subscribers as some thought, ie DA's search feature [that is useless anyway, thus a moot point]).

Ideas included no ads, a special "status", faster/no approval time and/or a separate list of recent uploads by subscribers, etc.

Not sure what became of it. If you wish to help the site independently, I think Denis still has an account for donations. Smile

Lack of interest. If like nobody will use it, it wasn't worth setting up all the stuff.

If interest in it has increased, I'll look into it again.

As for the donations thing, tried that. Had a paypal link up for months. A total of 2 people donated, and one was a site helper -- Not a very viable option from my experance. Even if only 1% of FAC members paid like $5/month the site would be set, but experance doesn't suggest that will happen.

If you browsed the caegories recently you may notice "sponsered links" thing. I am working on other things like that which, if they work, will replace at least one of the banners.

I've always known fanart as a free website, different from DA. Don't do the pay pal thing.

But maybe a poll in the forums would work a little better.
If I have to, I'll go around asking people for donations. Don't get me wrong, I don't [i]hate[/i] the ads, I just want this site to be talked about more often. I hate hearing so much about DA. F*ck DA. We even have people here talking about DA! This site has more to offer when it boils down to the members.

I say forget about asking everyone if they'd pay, find some members who [i]would[/i] pay and give them those exclusive features. I'd pay, for sure, I mentioned that months ago to Denis. At $5/month, hell, I'd even go so far as to pay Grays first three months of subscriptions. I already said I'd pay for Dogss, so that's in the hat. FAC has been moving forward since I came here, but recently, it seems as though, not exactly moving backwards, but standing still. I hope that made sense.

BTW, who are Aprils Artists of the month?

DA is also a free website. People bitch and moan about the DA subscribers, but everything you get is an added bonus. Bigger thumbnails, images in your journal, the *name, a search feature that [b]doesn't work properly[/b], and the ability to read the first couple sentences of a comment on your messages page instead of having to click on them.

Not a single necessary feature is not offered to free members.

The same would be true for FAC. It's all bells and whistles to make it feel like you're getting [i]something[/i] in return for paying, but it's mostly about donating to the site. It's not like we'll say free members can only upload ten pictures a month or have a maximum of 50 in their gallery or anything like that. Rolling eyes

i dont think many members will pay, my reason is that more than 75% of people here at FAC are -16 so.... thats what i think

It's random and should stay that way.

It becomes far too hard to do it by merit or skill. There's only a handful of obviously top shelf artists, and after that there's hundreds who equally deserve the recognition. Random makes things much smoother.

Polls often become popularity contests.

I know not many will pay. But what I mean is will it all work out if just a few pay?
Even if its a very small amount of people, will it help even a little? If so, then I say do it. Added features or not, do it.
