Sometimes, higher quality tools are only worth the money if you're already a skilled artist and know how to get the best out of them. If you're just starting out, then the brand name hardly matters. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

So, uh... "thanks"?
Good color blending techniques (which takes time, experience, and experiments to develop) can compensate for lower quality brands, whereas the reverse isn't nearly as true.
Far as I concern myself, technique is really all that matters, and the brand of materials makes little difference to the end result. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

are you sure brand does not help?
i am doooooooooomed
i'll practice some technniques too
i'm sure eventually i'll get better....
i should have spent more time colouring than drawing
i cant even get a crayon to work right.... i always have to melt them...
i think my standards of colouring are a bit too high
i think i should add that animation to my signature |

It depends on your technique. If you shade lightly, with the paper showing through, it won't make much difference. If you blend colors and want solid coverage, prismas are a thousand times better than crayola or prang or any of those school brands. The lead is thicker, softer, and has more pigment in it, which does make it a lot more expensive, but worth it. If you're just practicing and plan on doing sketches, it'll eat up your money, but it can really improve finished pieces.
There are other options, though, of varying price. Derwent is also a good brand. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

^^ thanks! ^_^
i tried drawing an apple and colouring it in with... i think crayola pencil crayons....
it turned out okay i guess... ^.0
i have to practice techniques... which is a good thing... cause i have a book with colouring tachniques in it. but... i'm not too great a any of them...
i'm a gonna try different brands though
because the crayola ones keep breaking
"strong leds" my.... i dont even press hard! its like every mm. up there's a break!
especially in the blue one
~throughs pencil crayons against the wall~
...maybe thats why they keep breaking |

Primsacolors are great! But they don't work like simple brands like crayola at all. They got very soft leads that easily blend, and does take quite alot of practice to get used to them. My suggeston to first start out coloring with more simple brands like crayola (I used RoseArt xD), and once you get a feel to those, start trying out prismacolors. Some art stores out there sell individual Primacolor pencils, so you could go there and buy like 4 to try them out, rather then like buying a whole EXPENSIVE pack and not using it ^^;
I consider my artistic strength to be in colored pencils, so I hope that helped! ^___^
lol, don't shoot the newbie here xD |
