over here (u.k) the government was considering to ban smoking in all public places , do you think this would of been a good idea?
i have no problem with people who smoke whatsoever , i dont think the government should ban it , people should have enough commom sense not to smoke in a pub ,restaurant .just an opinion . |

thats a good point , but wouldnt it be easier to try and raise awareness of the dangers of smoking ? i know this approach has been tried many times , but maybe they just need something stronger to get the message across . again just an opinion. |

there must be an option we havent tried yet , but if there isnt i would be all for a ban , although i wouldnt want the problem to get that serious , people should have the right to do as they please , but as you said they shouldnt be allowed to put other peoples lives at risk . |

the amount of people who smoke , drink and take drugs at the high school im at was quite shocking when i first got there , now it just seems nomal to see a load of kids proped up against walls only semi consious . the more i hear peoples opinions the more a ban seems the best option to take . |

yes but they should ban everything.. including alcohol tobacco etc etc etc and all drugs that arent given by a doctor/drugstore. The big problem with that is that all the people who sell tobacco/alcohol wil lose their work... _________________

thats a good point , but theres got to be something that can be done about the situaion that dosent rsort to people losing their jobs but stops smokers putting other peoples iives at risk......if its just a ban of smoking in public places , then nobody need lose jobs , but the alcohol and drug issue would be harder to resolve .

Think about how much the government makes from the tax on smoking, if everyone here stopped smoking tomorrow the MP's would be creasing themselves. Then you've got to think about how the bans will vary between regions, councils etc. Jack McConnell wants a blanket ban in all pubs. Good one Jack, how many people do think will agree to that?
People say that non-smokers shouldn't have to breathe in smokers' smoke in public, but what about car exhausts? I don't like breathing in that crap when I wait for a bus, but a car ban seems unlikely.
Generally I think if people want to smoke, let them do it. Just don't expect me to send a wreath to their funeral. _________________ "You know what? My squirrel instinct tells me he's even more of a bastard than I first thought." - Gene Hunt |

The county where I live already has such a ban on smoking in public workplaces. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Here in California you can't smoke in restaurants or bars or hotels or anything like that.
It's actually....really nice. but people get SO rude (like if they're smoking on a restaurant patio when the policy is not to allow it within 15 feet of the restaurant or something)
The only reason why I think they should ban it is because it causes harm to people AROUND them who choose NOT to participate.
What people do to/for themselves is their own business in my opinion. But people tend to get careless and selfish when it comes to their addictions.
My parents have been smokers since before I was born, up until a few years ago my mom would NEVER smoke around us (she was furious when she found out my dad had been smoking in the car when us kids were there for years)
Now they smoke all over the house and get mad if we ask them to open a window.
My sense of smell is shot, me and my younger siblings get nautious all the time, and my younger brother has had a really bad cough for a couple weeks that's starting to worry me.
Yeah, ban it.
When parents are killing their kids cuz their f**king addiction comes first, ban them and let the addicts deal with it cold turkey.
To responsible smokers, sorry, but the rest ruined it for y'all. |
I think it should all be banned. Drugs, overuse of alcohol, smoking.
When I say overuse of alcohol I mean high school kids drinking and becoming an alcoholic. It's a sad sad world we live in....
i so totallyagree that it should all be banned.
its all bad fer you. |

It's ridiculous that they ban things like video games and television programs but they allow something as poisonous to ALL PEOPLE (whether they CHOOSE to do it or not) like cigarettes.
'course the tabacco company has money comin' out it's ass and as far as most politicians are conerned...that's what matters.
F**kingn politics. |

it would be great if you werent able to smoke in pubs , resturants and hotels ect , but over here its more a case of , if the customer wants to smoke let them , wich really pisses me off , if i wanted to smoke i would buy my own fags , not wait for someone to come and blow their cigrette smoke in my face !!! |

i know what you mean about smoking in pubs at the end of term, our college has its own holiday 'County day' basically we just have the afternoon off and go to the pub called the county, there was a 14 year old there (being served as well) and he was smoking. I had a hunch there was going to be a fight, I was right my friend asked him to stop smoking near him, so the kid blew it in his face, lets just say I think Cyph kinda went too far beating him like that |

i really dont mind peple who smoke , and i can partially understand why they may get a bit aggitated when people have a go at the about it , but i still get a bit ticked off when they dont take any consideration towards other people who dont smoke , but i cant see how beating them to a pulp will help , thats not to say your friend wasnt right to ask them not to smoke round them . |
