Hmmm...lots of kids today, even 4-year-olds, know how to use the F word. I don't like what's happening. Sure, adults can listen 'cause they understand but...letting kids listen to these kinds of songs? I disagree.

I totally agree with you. I actually think the biggest influence as far as genres go is the rap music. It is swapped with curse words, derogatory comments directed towards...bloody everyone! Some children are very much well versed when it comes to using profane words...moreso than myself, not that I do curse, mind you.

It only makes me a tad bit upset at the fact that there is little to nothing done on the subject matter....the only people who can police the children are the adults in their lives.

Yeah, the hand is right, rap music has all the foul language, like a swear word ofter every word!!!!!!!!! An godly reason why you should hate it. Rap sucks cock period. It's a phase, prolly gonna bleed away like country, or just die right away. IU hate every one who likes rap music, yeps, I'm purty shallow. Well yeah, Limp bisket also has that foul language, they're hardcore metal, damn it even bothers the f**k outta me, so they'll just bleed away I guess. I wish music with foul lanuage would just go away, heavymetal music like slipknot can suit you when your ina bad mood. And punk could be green day...I dunno, too much geners...

not to mention most mainstream rap music is surrounded by shallow materialism and the lyrics suggest much disrespect towards woman. kids growing up listeing to it think thats how it is and its not right or healthy.

It's up to the parents what they allow their children to watch or listen to. I have no problem with it. They're just words.

Mainstream rap is no worse than mainstream pop rock.

Parents are responsible for how they bring up their children. Period.

I have a seven year old cousin for as long as I can remember has been brought up on rock music. Y'know, GnR, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, you name it, she's heard it. And she's turned out all right in spite of her daily listening of "Used to Love Her." My uncle and I sometimes sing that song to her and she gets a kick out it. ^_^ (If anyone doesn't know, its about how a guy killed his wife, buried her and he can still hear her complaining.)

And it is very difficult to shelter kids from foul mouthed songs. They're going to hear it anyway at school (I have a brother who gets all his music from school so don't tell me that isn't true.) I guess a good way to put my opinion is that if I ever have children, I'm going to let them listen to what they want as long as its appropriate (meaning I'll listen to it first.) I just want my kid to stay a kid. And if listening to rap or rock is going to make him grow up to fast then I will limit the music he listens to.

....What?

Who made up fuck and shit? http://www.google.com

No more idiotic than the person who made up any other word.

(if the meaning of that sentence was different, disregard all that)

Agree. The words should probably not be a prob. Though the fact that they are harsh, and disturbing to some people might be.

its not so much the actually word. its the context their used in, especially in rap that is just completely unacceptable. whether people want to admit it ot not most kids are verrry influential. yea they are going to hear it in school, but that doesnt mean you just give up and let it alone at home. thats just going to reinforce it. they may not always listen to you but at least something's there. if your kids grow up respecting you and not fearing you its the best way to get them to listen but that doesnt mean you should just sit back and watch them fall. then you wouldnt be a parent.

Huh? Screw rap music? Maybe, yeah but what about religious rap music? No foul words whatsoever. They tell about Jesus and the Father! I heard some in one of the festivities in my school, and it was very enlightening and fun to listen to. Sure, a bit awkward but I liked it. It was even sung by a priest. Does that deserve consideration?

Yes yes! We are not talking about that particular type of rap, and I'm sure you know what type we ARE talking about. The songs by the fifty cents and the ice cubes; they have nothing positive to say. In fact, they promote violence through their raps. It's simply jibberish. Sure there are plenty of songs from other genres that use curse words, but there is nothing derogatory about it. And in rock songs, a curse word isn't almost every other word in the song. It's ever so upsetting and unsettling.

Depends on the song just as much as it does in rap. It's only not quite as obvious because singles are typically chosen to be radio friendly with as little editing as possible because it disrupts the melody too much.

=) Yay, someone else loves Tenacious D.

"He asked us, 'Be you angels?'
And we said, 'Nay, we are but men -ROCK!'"

Anyways, I believe it's okay to let your kids be exposed to curse words, just so long as you let them know it's not okay to repeat them. I mean, they're gonna be exposed to it sooner more often than later, but it doesn't matter when, as long as they know it's not right.
