I just got my cats testes cut out... and now he won't stop licking the area. Has anyone else had this problem and how do you get the cat to stop licking?

ok. u know those tube thingies that you put around, cats, and dogs necks, that would work, no doubt. that way, every time it goes to lick, it wouldnt be able to reach.

No I had just called to see how much they were. I ended up going to get one, but they told me I didn't need one and instead they gave me this cream to make the area not so itchy... and it also tastes really bad for the cat. As soon as I put it on he started licking it.... then he started hacking and foaming... poor guy... Smile I really don't like doing this to cats.

Very interesting, about the lemons of course.

When my cat ( or dog that's in denial of it's species and thinks it's a cat ( I have a poodle and a cat)) does something like that, I keep an eye on it. If it does something like that I scold it and (let's say it's licking it's butt) force it's head away from it's butt. It may take longer and more cooperation from you, but it's works (at least for my pets and my friends pets who have the same problem)

It may also get over it. Don't take my word for it though, I'm not a vet.

Thanks for the advise Smile My kitty is better now. His area has healed and he can lick it as much as he wants now for all I care. But I thought getting his nuts removed was supposed to calm him down. He's more active than he's been in months. He's doing things he hasn't done since he was a kitten. Kinda cute.. but really annoying Smile

And I'm gonna look into that lemon thing... i don't want him going near certain windows and behind my tv... maybe that will do it Smile thanx

I know!! There's this spray called Kitty No (funny name huh?) I think it's kinda like pepper spray, but all you need to do is spray it around where you don't him to be, and he'll stop. I have two cats, and it worked for them. Good luck! ^_^

if i was a cat, id enjoy the freedom to do what i wanted, so no spray could stop meeee. but since im a human, get the spray, and scare your cat away from all the windows in the house, that way, he will never jump out one, and run away, so you can hug and cuddle it for the rest of its natural life. awwwww, cute cats, cootchie cootchie.

did i ever mention that i love cats, whether they be tigers, or, dolphins.

meow, they are so kool, because they deliver pizza.

Cat Facts: A guide to know what cats will react to

1) Anything that is citrus, lemons, oranges, limes, anything, they DO NOT like and will try best to avoid anything that smells as such, taste as such.

example: our three cats would try getting into the trash after the cat food cans late at night, or any meat from dinner that was thrown out. to stop them, i got some of the orange glow cleaner, which has a very strong orange smell, and wiped the sides of the trash can, which they did not any longer want to go near or try and tip over. The same is for other citrus like products.

2) Cats and dogs will lick their butts whether you like it or not <_< it's natural to them, and although we don't like to think about it, their tongues actually are cleaner and have less bacteria on them than ours do. And it's how they clean themselves, they aren't capable of whipping their asses with toilet after all. If you don't like it, it's understandable, i myself, will push my cat over on the bed if he tries to do so in front of me on my bed, which he seems to own lately. After a few tries, he gets the idea and just lays down or goes out of the room to do it else where, getting the idea that i do not like it.

3) Getting your cat fixed usually, (not always) calms the cat down. Sometimes it is instant, others it may take awhile. It sounds like you got yours done when your cat is a few years old. I got my two cats done (male and female cats, siblings) as soon as they were old enough to, which is something like 6 or 8 weeks old. The other cat, was adopted along with the other two, but was already fixed due to her age and going through the adoption agency.

4) CUT YOUR CATS CLAWS! It does NOT harm them in any way, but keeps them from getting caught on things. whether inside or out. Just DO NOT cut to close to the red coloring of the claw, that is blood that is supplied to the claw to keep it growing and healthy, if you cut it to close, you may be dealing with a VERY angry cat, and you will need to go to the vet and spend more money than you need. If you don't cut your cats claws when needed, they can grown under and back into their paw pads, and give them a limp, and over time, more serious damage. My neighbor and boss did this, and the vet had to literally pull it out from the skin of the paw pad, before she could even cut it, and a cat can bleed more than one thinks. It also keeps them from catching on carpet, rugs, furniture, curtains, any cat posts and such, which can be a very bad thing if they get mad and try and rip it right out, thus hurting themselves. And if have a catch playground of any sort that th ecat can get stuck on, if it tries to jump away, it can hurt itself once again when stuck. SO CUT THEIR CLAWS! I just did my cats today, some are fussy about it, some just growl, some will try and get away, but don't worry, just do it.

5) DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT! A cat only sweats through the opening of it's paws. When they stretch, letting their claws out to pull at something, they open the paws up and out, and that is where the sweat glands are on their bodies. Declawing them can make it harder to open their paws properly and i don't think you would like that. And i certainly don't think anyone here would take their child to get their nails pulled out permantly, so why would you make your cat? If your worried about furniture and such, think about the citrus sprays and clipping the claws is VERY effective. Besides, if you cat where to get into a fit, it chances at winning and walking away unharmed by another cat or animal of any sorts, can depend on if it has claws to defend themselves. Even clipped claws are effective. Just today i saw two cats near my school get in a nasty fit, and trust me, if your declawed cat met a big, nicely clawed cat, it would come home bloody.

6) Beleive it or not, filling a two liter bottle up with water and placing it around the garden, is suppose to keep cats out of your garden (yard, sorry, i learned this when living in england so i'm use to saying garden now) Some cats won't go near them, and some will. But if it bothers you cats are ever walkignthrough your bushes or flowers all the time, do this during the spring, summer and fall to keep them away, maybe adding some lemon to the water may even help.

Some simple facts i thought were common sense to most honors and well know, well, besides the last one, lol. There you go.

Hoope your cat calms down for you. Mine where crazy afterwards, but they were still kitten, they are now 2 1/2 years old, and the other one is probably 4 or 5 we're guessing in age. they're still like kittens when they play, but they will lay down for the most part and not be annoying. *shrugs*

In all honesty, i'd prefer a dog over a cat any day. This is the first time in my life without one, and when i lived in england, i have three cats then even (diff cats of course) and whenever they acted up, all i had to do was go "Kanh, go get em!" and my german shepard would chase them off from getting into things, or hold them down for a nice, long, cleaning and nibbling (notice how dogs chew/nibble at their fur when they clean themselves, well, that always pissed the cats off ^_^) so i miss having a dog, in that i don't have anyone to shut the cats up for me, so now when i'm busy, i have to go investigate, cause the dog isn't around to watch them in the first place and keep them in line. And dogs for number one, will love you when you need it, and leave you alone when you need it and obey your commands, don't see how anyone would not like that. *sighs* doesn't look like i'll be getting a new shepard anytime soon though so i guess it's just me and my cats.

Oh, if you like cats so much, go here http://www.lasher.org/gallery
Look for the cat gallery, it has picts of the cats we had in england (along with the kittens one of the cats had, and a current cat is named after (simon) because i moved, giving away the original simon when he was just 5 week old *pouts*) They are sorted by country in which we lived and had those cats, and y name. Look under the holiday category, and you will see how me and my mother tortured my cat now current cat, simon by making him wear a santa hate, site by frosty the snow man which he feared more than anything when we turned it on to dance. lol. Enjoy

My mother was allergic to cats when she was younger, but she loved being around animals so much that she would still go to this old couples house, and help with their 20 some cats they had...yes, they had this huge house, lots of money, to old couple who liked to have cats for company and just happened to love my mom and how she helped the mout with their antique store.

Over the years, it didn't bother her so much, and only just a few years ago did she stop having any syptoms. They are completely gone, it to her along time but over the years her body began to develope and adjust to what it was being exposed to, and she built up an immunity to it....

so there is some hope for you if you want a cat someday.

and a hyper dog doesn't mean anything, my last dog was a 130 pound, pure breed german shepard who stood over 6ft tall on his hind legs....he was real hyper, and as we do with all our pets unless we plan to bred them, we got him fixed, that is after we bred him with a female german shepard around the corner...he calmed down just a tad bit, but was still extremely hyper, with a lot of energy and could easily give you some killer bruises with his hug tail just swinging and hitting you bare leg T_T

We had three cats, and they were fine with him...cats can handle themselves a lot better than people may seem....even when you see a hug dog charge them and hold them done, don't just think their going to get hurt...

i can't say how many times that dog charged my cats out of play, scared them, pissed them off, and when he pushed them to far, they took care of him just fine...the scratches on his nose was proof one day when he wanted to play and they didn't *chuckles*
